Wouldn't call it a robbery.. it was a close fight.. certainly not a clear win.. but it's wasn't the best of fights either..

Yea can't make a case for smith winning is ottJackson328 wrote: ↑11 Nov 2017, 20:04Think thats way ott mate, I really was rooting for Williams and I don't care much for the Smiths at all but I thought it was a close but clear win for Smith 115-113 sits ok with me but have to admit I didn't actually score it, just felt that Smith was mostly in control and that Williams was always chasing it

Maybe motivation?Jackson328 wrote: ↑11 Nov 2017, 20:06I'm sure he told him at the end of the 9th he needed to win the last 3 rounds, if Lockett could see it then surely others can![]()

Smith was very tight, very disciplined and in control most of the way through. Williams just not intense enough to put pressure on Smith, and he wasn't capable of doing it anyway. Smith controlled most of the fight by using his jab and making him miss and countering. It was a good performance and a step up from the April performance, where you could say he was overweight and carried a wee bit of luck.

Watched this for an old over zealous boxrec mod in a pub with no sound and both of us had Williams comfortably.
Re: Round-by-Round: Liam Smith vs. Liam Williams II - 11 November 2017
The commentary was certainly favouring Smith, there is no doubt about that. When they were saying that he was up by a couple of rounds I thought they were talking shite. So when Lockett told Williams he was down, I seriously wondered if I'd got it all wrong...but I honestly didn't think I had.Jackson328 wrote: ↑11 Nov 2017, 20:06I'm sure he told him at the end of the 9th he needed to win the last 3 rounds, if Lockett could see it then surely others can![]()
I predicted a Smith points win beforehand so I have no agenda but I honestly couldn't see how he won it so comfortably.
I gave Williams the first five rounds as Smith was very slow to start. Admittedly a couple of the early rounds were very close, I had it 115-113 Williams, so if I give Smith a close first round, it suddenly becomes a draw, fair enough. But there's no way it was as wide as two of the judges scored it.
Maybe I'll watch it again...I remember watching Pacquiao/Bradley 1 for a second time and scored it a lot closer than I did live.

I was talking about your other comments ffs, "fix and robbery" erm not really, even Williams corner knew he was losing!Oiky wrote: ↑11 Nov 2017, 20:08Yea can't make a case for smith winning is ottJackson328 wrote: ↑11 Nov 2017, 20:04Think thats way ott mate, I really was rooting for Williams and I don't care much for the Smiths at all but I thought it was a close but clear win for Smith 115-113 sits ok with me but have to admit I didn't actually score it, just felt that Smith was mostly in control and that Williams was always chasing it![]()
but in my opinion Williams definitely won
"ruins the best sport" etc etc everyone else who disagrees is "a divvy"
Not for me, if Lockett thought that could motivate his fighter it is simply awful cornerman advice. Tell him he needs to win this next round by all means but saying he needs to win all 3 is panic mode imo and he knew his man was trailing on the cards. I honestly think people are swayed by their hatred for the Smiths, I can understand it as they're not the nicest people seemingly but to call that decision a robbery or corrupt is just crazy. I live in Wales, my family are all Welsh and I really wanted Williams to win tonight as I am convinced Smith deliberately butted him last time but I can't see how Williams deserved the nod.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑11 Nov 2017, 20:08Maybe motivation?Jackson328 wrote: ↑11 Nov 2017, 20:06I'm sure he told him at the end of the 9th he needed to win the last 3 rounds, if Lockett could see it then surely others can![]()

Re: Round-by-Round: Liam Smith vs. Liam Williams II - 11 November 2017
is it not common for corners to use 'your losing!' as a motivation tactic. i mean maybe lockett really thought smith deserved to be ahead but him simply telling williams he needed the last 3 doesnt make it so clear if he really bdlieved his man deserved to be losing.
i thought it was really close. no complaint either way for me but just strange how ppl seem to be split into thinking 1 guy or the other won clear. didnt think either put it beyond doubt tbh. i wasnt cheering for either but i did pick smith.

Will definitely watch again in the morning because I am so amazed at the outrage at what I thought was an inevitable decision, yes one card was far too wide as usual but when so many good posters call it the opposite way it makes me wonder what we were all watching.
Re: Round-by-Round: Liam Smith vs. Liam Williams II - 11 November 2017
Wanted Smith to win and had money on him but watching in the pub with no sound I felt like Williams edged it. Seemed like both were hitting gloves a fair bit but Williams seemed a bit more active to me. Wasn't the best fight but I'll probably watch it back and score it RBR when it's on YouTube.

Williams could definitely have done more and should have. But he won that fight for me and got robbed in the first one.
It's getting harder and harder to follow boxing these days.
It's becoming a shock to have proper scorecards.

These days it's more shocking to have a proper scorecard than to have a terrible one.

I thought Smith won by two or three rounds, I got frustrated with Williams. If he landed or even just thrown a flashy combo in a few of the rounds, he would have won.

Was the fight any good?
Re: Round-by-Round: Liam Smith vs. Liam Williams II - 11 November 2017
it was so so. not awful but i wouldnt recommend it to anyone aside from if i wanted to show them a fight where opinion was split to get their view. both guys struggled to land anything of note.no real drama.
Re: Round-by-Round: Liam Smith vs. Liam Williams II - 11 November 2017
Fight was close in the end as Smith picked it up, but I already had Williams winning 7 of the first 9 or 10, so can only see one winner.
Re: Round-by-Round: Liam Smith vs. Liam Williams II - 11 November 2017
Wide cards in close fights are an inevitability due to the scoring system, which is essentially saying 'score 12 three minute fights and see who won the most.' It always amuses me when people say things like 'you could score the first six either way but the cards were too wide.' By definition that means you could give the first six to one fighter?
An example is the Joshua Wlad fight. After four rounds it felt close, yet Joshua landed more and threw more in each of the first four. If you scored fights as a percentage you might say he was up but probably only 55-45/60-40, not 100-0. But you don't score fights that way.
For what it's worth I really wanted Williams to win and thought he clearly lost.

Seemed no urgency from Williams and no urgency from his corner either: before the last round saying be careful, rather than make sure you win it !
Lockett might be a great trainer, but he ain’t a great cornerman - probably lost him the first fight too

Re: Round-by-Round: Liam Smith vs. Liam Williams II - 11 November 2017
lockett as a trainer seems like the guy who would smile and hold his wifes hand as she was in bed cheating with another man (this is just a comparison not saying it happens)
almost too laid back though he did say to win the last 3

Re: Round-by-Round: Liam Smith vs. Liam Williams II - 11 November 2017
Williams had the fight won by the winning the first half of the fight. I had Williams by 4 with the pro smith commentary.
