What's worst, losing to a championship calibre fighter like Barkley or getting whipped by Drake Thadzi?Kalan wrote: ↑02 Nov 2017, 17:11I never said Barkley dominated Hearns you lying piece... He beat Tommy on points and he knocked him out... Tommy is 0-2 vs Barkley, but The Blade couldn't get a win versus Benn, Nunn, Toney, Kalambay, and other conquerors of his -- who weren't as skinny or chinny as Hearns.SaadOffTheDeck wrote: ↑25 Oct 2017, 20:36He's never seen Hearns fight. Oh, wait, you're so dumb you didn't even NOTICE a fighter getting hurt to the body.
Same as you call Valero a good bodypuncher, except he wasn't.
You're FOS
Re: 36 years ago today hearns vs Leonard took place
But James Toney didn't lose to Iran Barkley... He dominated him... He beat the crap out of him... and he stopped him... the way a great boxer-puncher should... So I don't know what fighters who didn't fight both James Toney and Tommy Hearns have to do with this...
There's no comparison there because we don't know how badly Thadzi would have stretched Hearns out cold... If Barkley did it, why not?

Enjoyed watching this fight, but as a Hearns fight I was gutted with the outcome. I enjoyed his boxing of rat though, he was so good, but you have to hand it to ray Leonard. Gutsy effort staying in there with Hearns and his power and turn the fight his way with pure heart and determination.
It’s qualities like those which separate him from a legacy like Mayweather. He overcome a big challenge that night.
Hearns won the rematch though

Mayweather was a tremendous boxer but he’s no Ray Leonard or Hearns. Mayweather in the 80s has a different career for sure.elmersalsa wrote: ↑11 Nov 2017, 01:28Pretty Boy Floyd is one of a kind, too.Ossyrules wrote: ↑05 Nov 2017, 08:06 Enjoyed watching this fight, but as a Hearns fight I was gutted with the outcome. I understand this will cue a rant from you saying “the great Floyd Mayweather” etc etc
Not bothered

Floyd would give Ray a tough fight, he couldn't beat hearns with a bat.

I think he’d have periods vs Ray, but I don’t see him beating ray. Leonard has too many advantages and answers to what Floyd poses imoSaadOffTheDeck wrote: ↑11 Nov 2017, 05:42 Floyd would give Ray a tough fight, he couldn't beat hearns with a bat.

Re: 36 years ago today hearns vs Leonard took place
If Terry Norris could box Leonard to death Floyd would box him out... Hearns wouldn't last with his Chinny chin chin... Floyd would counter that jab all night, punch holes in Tommy and get to that soft chin.. Leonard had a great chin. Floyd couldn't stop him. SRL's best fight was Benitez -- who he stopped and Hearns couldn't stop.. But Ray was nailing Benitez with loaded jabs. You don't hit Floyd with any of those.. Miguel Cotto was pasting Floyd in the nose with some very nice jabs -- and that's the most I've ever seen Floyd get hit.. Roger had to break out the Q-Tips.. Neither Leonard or Hearns had a jab as quick or as slick as that.. You could read their jabs like Norris and Barkley did.. Floyd would be pounding on them.SaadOffTheDeck wrote: ↑11 Nov 2017, 08:58I wouldn't favor him, but he's got nothing for hearns.Ossyrules wrote: ↑11 Nov 2017, 08:36I think he’d have periods vs Ray, but I don’t see him beating ray. You can't possibly think anyone takes you seriously. Hearns may have had the greatest jab ever. Floyd has no chance against Tommy.Kalan wrote: ↑11 Nov 2017, 17:24If Terry Norris could box Leonard to death Floyd would box him out... Hearns wouldn't last with his Chinny chin chin... If he had the greatest jab ever he wouldn't have been knocked out by Leonard, Barkley, and Hagler... Corbett said no boxer with a great jab should ever get hit cleanly with a right hand... I don't think that's correct -- but it shouldn't be a habit that gets you flattened a number of times.

I doubt people would give Barkley any shot at beating Hearns had they not actually fought. Going in Hearns was hugely favored to win.

Hearns beating Mayweather is probably the safest bet in historical fantasy match upsSaadOffTheDeck wrote: ↑11 Nov 2017, 19:28You can't possibly think anyone takes you seriously. He has a better chance vs Ray Leonard but I still heavily favour ray. Oscar found Floyd pretty easy with the jab for 6. And it was past his best Oscar too. Ray Leonard is too big and aggressive for Mayweather
Re: 36 years ago today hearns vs Leonard took place
It’s a fair point, but when considering Mayweather vs Hearns I’m looking at Hearns at his prime and best years, which isn’t vs barkleyCojimar 1946 wrote: ↑12 Nov 2017, 04:47 I doubt people would give Barkley any shot at beating Hearns had they not actually fought. It's a good point being used in the wrong way. We're all wrong all the time, that's why when talking about all time standings who you think would win should only be used as a tiebreaker. Vitali would beat a lot of Heavyweights more accomplished than him, but he beat nobody of note, EVER.Ossyrules wrote: ↑12 Nov 2017, 06:20It’s a fair point, but when considering Mayweather vs Hearns I’m looking at Hearns at his prime and best years, which isn’t vs barkleyCojimar 1946 wrote: ↑12 Nov 2017, 04:47 I doubt people would give Barkley any shot at beating Hearns had they not actually fought. In regards to Mayweather/Hearns, can anybody see Floyd digging as deep as Leonard had to? Floyd is tough as nails, underrated in that department, but Ray almost lost an eye and he would have lost the fight if it was 12 so if you're not making Floyd go 15, he has to be better than Leonard. Two certainties in life are; nobody could ever outbox Tommy Hearns and if you beat him you're going to the hospital(except Uriah grant when Hearns blew out his ankle).
Re: 36 years ago today hearns vs Leonard took place
Hearns was way too easy to hit...as Leonard, Hagler, and Barkley all proved conclusively... Barkley also beat Hearns on points.
Roy Jones and James Toney never got tagged up like Hearns did, even when they fought Heavyweights.. They box the piss out of Tommy.

Ledbedev beat both of them senseless. Roy and james we're just too easy to hit! If only they had a trainer like you to teach them the thumb suck defense.

Re: 36 years ago today hearns vs Leonard took place
Toney and Roy really shouldn’t be mentioned in the same breath as Hearns. You really do come out with some strange comments
Re: 36 years ago today hearns vs Leonard took place
You're weird for suggesting the hittable Hearns was a better boxer than Toney -- who easily boxed Iran Barkley to death -- a man who iced Hearns.
Talking about Roy Jones when he's ancient is nonsense... When Roy was 34 he won the Heavyweight Title... When Leonard was 34 he got steamed, creamed, and dry cleaned by Terry Norris... When Toney was 40 he beat Fres Oquendo for the IBA Heavyweight Championship... When Leonard was 40 he got stopped by somebody named Hector -- and that was his final exit.
