James DeGale vs. Caleb Truax - 9 December 2017

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

IBF super-middleweight champion James DeGale is defending his world title on December 9 at the Copper Box arena in London. The James DeGale opponent will be Caleb Truax, Boxing News understands.

Truax is a 28-3-2 (18) contender from Minnesota, who has fought the likes of Danny Jacobs and former WBC super-middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell. Jacobs outclassed him and halted the American in 12 rounds in Chicago in 2015. Truax moved up to super-middle and lost to Anthony Dirrell at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City last year. Dirrell stopped him in the first round.

“Before I won my world title, I got a lot of haters, I got criticised a lot. I think people saw that I worked hard, I boxed very well against a solid opponent and they started to give me the kudos and the respect,” he has told Boxing News.

easily the worst title defence opponent made by a brit this year. Disgrace that a world champion can get away with a defence like this. Hes fighting an american club fighter who just got knocked out in a round by dirrell. Im a Degale fan but this is not defendable.

I don't like this defence.

Truax has stepped up 3 times and failed. twice stopped and UD loss to Jermaine Taylor..

Truax is ranked #15 by IBF..

They went for the lowest ranked and possibly the easiest.

2 british world champs on the same bill and its not even being promoted properly, I mean what is the point of this fiasco ? Selby and De gale must think their careers are going backwards

Think that's why it is a sh1t opponent.
Just back from injury.

Not defending it, but that's what it'll be
Hopefully see something more meaningful in the new year if he comes through unscathed

This is typical Warren, Announce a world title fight , then dont announce an opponent a few weeks later who is usually shite.

Zurdo has announced his opponent for February as an unbeaten Ghana boxer.. HABIB "Wild Hurricane" AHMED (22-0, 17 KOs)

Makes DeGale's fight seem okay-ish..

I would rather see degale vs Ahmed. At least he might be good/half decent as we no traux is awful.

To be fair they've both been inactive the idea is they have a tune up then fight again next year what's wrong with that? I don't think Frank has tried to pretend its something it's not. We see bad matchroom cards all the time

Yeh, we're making a big deal about it tbh.. It's a voluntary, he hasn't fought since January this year.. Has been out injured.. He is due his mandatory after this fight.

Who's Degale's mandatory at the moment?
Well Andre Dirrel is still Interim champion after beating Uzcategui via DQ..

IBF ordered a rematch for Dirrel v Uzcategui after the dodgy ending where dirrels acting skills came out once again. So Degale should be able to have another fight before his mandatory is due, hopefully vs Ramirez for unification.
