Alfredo Angulo Mentioned as Possible Chavez Jr. Opponent
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has revealed the date of January 26 for his ring return. The fight would take place at a venue in Los Angeles, California.
According to Chavez Jr., he is simply waiting for confirmation from his advisor Al Haymon to begin the strongest part of his camp in search of rescuing his image .
The contest would be Chavez's first fight since the lopsided decision loss to country rival Saul "Canelo' Alvarez from back in May. The contest took place at a catch-weight of 164.5-pounds and Chavez Jr. appeared to be a dead man at the weight.
One of the opponents being mentioned for Chavez Jr. is countryman Alfredo Angulo (24-6, 20 KOs), who is also advised by Haymon.
Angulo's last fight took place at 165-pounds and he's been out of the ring since August of 2016, when he lost an upset decision to Freddy Hernandez as part of the Robert Guerrero vs. David Perralta card. Ironically Guerrero also suffered an upset decision loss that night.
Angulo is 2-4 in his last six fights. He lost three in a row with defeats to Erislandy Lara, Canelo Alvarez and James De La Rosa. He bounced back with two knockouts wins before taking another defeat at the hands of Hernandez.
Chavez Jr. (50-3-1, 32 KOs), who plans to fight at super middleweight when he returns, is looking to once again secure the services of Hall of Fame trainer Nacho Beristain, who trained Chavez Jr. for the Canelo fight.
"I feel like I already paid what I had to pay after that fight, I killed myself for the weight, I fought until I had a neck injury but it's fine, I did the best I could that night, and now, they are peppering me. Now I have to focus well in my return," said Chavez Jr. to ESPN Deportes.
"I want [Nacho] in my corner, I hope to reach an agreement with him for my next fight. I hope to show that now at my right weight things will be better, not just different."

An opponent like Alfredo Angulo would only serve as a confidence-building type of fight for Chavez Jr, where the outcome is a certainty.
From a fan’s perspective, I doubt that many people would be slightly tempted to watch this bout.

Irrelevant fight. Put it in Mexico or nobody even cares.

Margarito is as eligible as Angulo.
Re: Alfredo Angulo Mentioned as Possible Chavez Jr. Opponent
Pointless but probably entertaining and a peso maker.
Re: Alfredo Angulo Mentioned as Possible Chavez Jr. Opponent
Probably more eligible. Angulo always struck me as a poor man's Margarito, even though he's always been a little bigger than Marg.

These two fighters are closely equal p4p. This would be a reasonably balanced match-up if JCC Jr. didn't have a clear size advantage.

What weight? I doubt Chavez will make 168 for an opponent like Angulo.
