Oscar De La Hoya vs. Conor McGregor?
The GBP boss has apparently just called-out the UFC fighter.

Re: Oscar De La Hoya vs. Conor McGregor?
That's massively idiotic. DLH is ancient. Even the young bucks who schooled his over-the-hill ass 10 years ago are themselves about 39 now. DLH's prime ended about 13 years ago, and he's been inactive for 9 years, so I seriously doubt he would even be a divisional top 100 fighter now.

It's all a bit silly isn't it

Re: Oscar De La Hoya vs. Conor McGregor?
Oscar De La Hoya calls out Conor McGregor as boxing legend insists he would dispatch of UFC superstar in just two rounds: 'I still have it in me'
• American Oscar De La Hoya says that he has secretly been training for months
• The 44-year-old retired from the sport of boxing nine years ago with 39-6 record
• He says that he would return to take on UFC champion Conor McGregor
• De La Hoya was highly critical of McGregor before he fought Floyd Mayweather
Boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya has thrown his name into the hat to be Conor McGregor's next opponent, nine years after his last fight.
The 44-year-old was highly critical of Floyd Mayweather's match-up with the UFC superstar but seems to have changed his tune, issuing a call-out on Monday.
'You know I'm competitive,' De La Hoya said. 'I still have it in me. I've been secretly training, secretly training. I'm faster than ever and stronger than ever.
'I know I can take out Conor McGregor in two rounds. I'll come back for that fight. Two rounds. Just one more fight. I'm calling him out.
'Two rounds, that's all I need. That's all I'm going to say. You heard it on Golden Boy Radio. Two rounds, that's all I need.'
And the American insists it is a bout that must take place inside the ring, admitting he would not fare well inside the octagon.
'Let's get it straight: In the cage, he would freaking destroy me. He would freaking destroy me. Only in the ring,' he continued.
'I've been working out for the last five months. [My confidence] is how I feel now from my training. I don't know what it is, but I'll tell you now that I've never felt so good before in my life.'
De La Hoya, who retired in 2009 after a one-sided defeat Manny Pacquiao, won 10 world titles in six different weight classes and is regarded as one of the finest boxers of his generation.
McGregor exceeded expectations on his boxing debut against Mayweather, taking the undefeated icon 10 rounds, but has made clear his desire to return to mixed martial arts and defend his lightweight title.

To be fair, Oscar De La Hoya could earn himself at least $100m to engage in a relatively winnable fight.
How many of us would willingly step into a boxing ring against McGregor for $100m?

Perhaps you're right, but Oscar was a massive PPV draw during his heyday and the MayMac fight was considered to be highly-entertaining by the mainstream casuals.tiny_acres wrote: ↑14 Nov 2017, 12:27I don't see this fight coming close to being a hundred million dollars.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑14 Nov 2017, 12:25 To be fair, Oscar De La Hoya could earn himself at least $100m to engage in a relatively winnable fight.![]()

Boxing's hardcore fraternity poo-pooed the MayMac spectacle, with their expectations being low, but look at the financial numbers it generated.

But after reading mma and boxing forums. Both are down on Connor. They are tired of his antics.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑14 Nov 2017, 12:45Perhaps you're right, but Oscar was a massive PPV draw during his heyday and the MayMac fight was considered to be highly-entertaining by the mainstream casuals.tiny_acres wrote: ↑14 Nov 2017, 12:27I don't see this fight coming close to being a hundred million dollars.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑14 Nov 2017, 12:25 To be fair, Oscar De La Hoya could earn himself at least $100m to engage in a relatively winnable fight.![]()

Oscar would not draw much in today's landscape. He's not yesterday's news. He's a dozen years ago news.
I would be interested in listening to Connor talk crap about Oscar and his cross dressing and drug usage.
The press conferences would be hilarious

The fight would work ... ROOK vs WRECK
The fight would get NSAC app$$$$$roval... You heard of May-Mac??? ... This It would be the Mac-De Fight.
Floyd Mayweather and his dad could train McGregor and get him ready.. They would have a vested interest in Conor winning.

Re: Oscar De La Hoya vs. Conor McGregor?
Conor or the people that manage his career won't have any interest in this.
Re: Oscar De La Hoya vs. Conor McGregor?
Why NOT???? ... It's another GIANT MEDIA CIRCUS with 2 of the most famous fighters in the History of Combat Sports in a real boxing match.
Given how McGregor easily outboxed Mayweather for 3 rounds -- he only needs 4 things... Endurance which you get by actually doing roadwork... Strength---which means you could have the fight at 160 so he wouldn't weaken himself too much by weight draining... A proper boxing stance -- which great trainers like Floyd Mayweather and his father could teach him... and how to block, slip, and duck straight right hand punches.. Oscar never had much of a straight right anyway.. Floyd found a home for his straight right hand by the 5th round.. De La Hoya's body is so deteriorated from debauchery that it would be extremely difficult if not impossible for him to go 12 rounds with McGregor.
Every MMA fan who was skeptical about the Floyd Fight – will order this one.
McGregor has a great chance to win if he doesn’t FU royally again with his coaching.
Re: Oscar De La Hoya vs. Conor McGregor?
McGregor could make more money in the UFC I'm sure, and the crowd would rather see him in UFC fights where he's one of THAT sports best. In Boxing we're talking about him fighting a guy who's been retired for nearly 10 years...in what way could this possibly be more interesting than seeing him fight prime challengers in his own sport?
Would you like to see Terence Crawford stop Boxing to come fight B.J. Penn in the UFC? I know I sure as hell wouldn't.

I don't think it's worth McGregor's time. Maybe 300k buys and they make 5 or 10 million. As joint promoters they could lose money.

But I agree it might lose money
Re: Oscar De La Hoya vs. Conor McGregor?
Come on... The fight might do even better than May-Mac... ROOK vs WRECK
I hated May-Mac at first because it was so stupid for anyone who hadn't boxed to start at such a high level... But the judges were fixed so Floyd couldn't possibly lose.. Why would he bother doing that if he were such an easy winner??? There was an outside chance McGregor could go the distance. That's the only reason to fix the judges.. McGregor tagged Floyd up like crazy for the first 3 rounds -- because when has Floyd ever boxed a tall rangy southpaw except for Errol Spence in sparring??? ... And he got killed by Spence who had 4 pro fights.
When McGregor beat Paulie up in sparring I knew he was more than another Rademacher.. He didn't look good.. He didn't have a stance or footwork and he looked awkward trying to get away from straights.. He didn't have a 6-round boxer's stance or movement, but he didn't look like somebody who never had a boxing match. He looked very athletic but he didn't have a clue what to do with his head when a loaded shot came straight at it.. This fight he would have a much better shot cuz he learned so much from Floyd and cuz Oscar never was that great to begin with.

He'd have a shot because Oscar is old, long retired, and shouldn't be fighting anymore. It'd be a stupid thing for Oscar to do. He must need the money is all I can guess.Kalan wrote: ↑14 Nov 2017, 19:18 Come on... The fight might do even better than May-Mac... ROOK vs WRECK

Re: Oscar De La Hoya vs. Conor McGregor?
I think that's debatable. IMO, 2017 Mayweather would've beat any boxer outside the divisional top 30 more clearly than he beat McGregor. Aside from the wearers of tin foil hats who think Mayweather carried McGregor, I think a majority of boxing fans would agree that McGregor would be at least divisional top 35. Some would probably have him comfortably higher than that.paddy chavez wrote: ↑14 Nov 2017, 14:25Lackeos wrote: ↑14 Nov 2017, 08:47 That's massively idiotic. DLH is ancient. do a poll on it mate, bet youd be wrong again
Re: Oscar De La Hoya vs. Conor McGregor?
He doesn't need any money. He's got hundreds of millions.. He's freaking bored and seeking media attention.. Remember a couple of years ago he said he was launching a comeback and wanted to fight Gennady Golovkin??? ... He wasn't serious, but he had a lot of folks talking.gilgamesh wrote: ↑14 Nov 2017, 19:27He'd have a shot because Oscar is old, long retired, and shouldn't be fighting anymore. Bit hypocritical from Oscar considering how much noise he made of the circus distracting fans from the real super fight build up, golovkin vs canelo
If Oscar has anything at all left in boxing he’d beat mcgregor though. Mcgregor isn’t a boxer
