Joe Cortez's ESPN Pound-for-Pound ratings

Post by Enlightened-One »

I don’t know how long they’ve been doing this, but ESPN now discloses the individual votes cast by their panel of experts that decide their top-ten pound-for-pound ratings.

Here’s how Joe Cortez voted:

1. G. Golovkin
2. V. Lomachenko
3. T. Crawford
4. C. Alvarez
5. K. Thurman
6. S. Kovalev
7. M. Pacquiao
8. D. Wilder
9. A. Joshua
10. S. Sor Rungvisai

A decent argument can be made about the sequencing of the top-five, but perhaps Kovalev is too high and I’m unsure about whether Pacquiao, Wilder, Joshua or Sor Rungvisai should be included in this list.

Does anyone else, like me, think that his ratings are a little strange?

What a stupid list. Pac, kovalev and wilder should all not be on a p4p top 10 list.

Crawford
Lomachenko
GGG
------- clear choices for 1-3

Canelo
Wangek
Thurman
-------- choices for 4-6

Spence
Rigondeaux
Inoue
Usyk
Joshua
Gonzales
--------- choices for 7-10

Was never one of my favorite referee's, and apparently doesn't have a good eye for the P4P either.

I think his top six are legit although I would have it:

Hitman Jr
3G
Once Upon A Time
Lomassiah
GingerHead
Krushedner

A victory over Rigo would put Lomassiah no worse than #2. Same vice versa.

Seems like a decent list to me.

Debatable....of course, but not crazy out of whack.

I agree it's all objective. I wouldn't have the same list but it's not bad

i like wilder but dont really see it myself. he has the weaker record and has more issues with b level opponents. he does actually give up weight to a lot of opponents but thats mainly because, unlike most hws, hes actually in shape

I’d agree with the top 3 but the rest are strange imo, possibly top 4 with canelo but personally I had golovkin beating him clearly.

Thurman isn’t top 5 imo. He rarely impresses in his fights for me

Kovalev is a ? Atm due to the last ward fight (please tanzio don’t implode on your kova stuff)

Pacquaio isn’t a p4per now for me

Wilder certainly isn’t

Joshua... borderline but realistically closer to top 15 than 10
