Prime Harry Wills vs. Prime Billy Miske and Bill Brennan

Post by scorpio83 »

What would happen if Harry Wills fight the first two challengers, who fought Jack Dempsey's crown, Billy Miske in his prime before suffering Bright's Disease and prime Bill Brennan each in 15 rounds. In my opinion, Wills would get out-boxed by Miske through the early rounds, then started to cut him off the ring and punishing him with heavy punches before knocking him down with a big right hand in the twelfth round. Against Brennan, Wills would knock him out quicker than Miske in 5 rounds. What is your opinion?

Wills would have kicked the shit out of both. In fact Brennans chief sparring partner for Dempsey was Kid Norfolk. Norfolk handled Brennan do easily in those training sessions that observers warned Dempsey that if he struggled that bad against Brennan he better avoid Norfolk (which he did). Wills crushed Norfolk in less than two rounds. Norfolk had dominated Miske twice as well. Nothing in either Brennans nor Miskes record suggests they were in Wills class. Indeed, both were fought specifically to avoid Wills. When Wills fought Fred Fulton Dempsey announced he would defend against the winner. Wills caved in 3 of Fultons ribs and stopped him in 3 easy rounds. The next day Dempsey announced he would fight Miske instead. Miske had one fight in the past year, a two round KO over hapless Jack Moran who had lost 7 of his last 8 fights. Prior to that Miske had been forced to retire for a year due to terminal kidney disease and prior to his retirement he had not won his last four fights. 3 of which were against light heavyweights. Miske doesnt make it outside of 2 rounds with Wills hammering his body.

Good opinion, klompton and another Dempsey's challenger Wills never fought was Tommy Gibbons and he was too elusive for Wills to catch, but Wills eventually catch him off the ring and punished him on the body to earn a 15 round decision. Do you agree?
