What should the AJ Parker split be?

Post by willardx »

Loads of this in the boxing news at the moment. I understand the arguments from both sides and thought the 35% offered to JP was ok, assuming its for every revenue stream. Maybe there's a few angles I'm missing. What do people think?

JP is whinging like a b*tch 30-35% is more than enough, it smashes his current career high payday

Adam abramovitz made a point that top rank have an involvement with JP and that should get involved trying to deal with Hearn as duco are very amateur which I make him right there

David Higgins is laughable 😂😂

At the odd little Parker presser they only asked for 35% which I think is perfectly fair for all involved

The fact they asked for that means Hearn, quite rightly will go for less they should have started at a higher figure and gone down, I understand why JP wants a good deal, he's basically selling his belt.

Too many fights don't get made because of money. They need a rule across the board, all expenses paid for and what's left the winner takes 75% the loser 25%. Sod all these 'negotiatons'.

Can you imagine if the ' Fab Four' all argued over the split of purses ?,one of the reasons my interest is fading in this 'sport'

JP at most makes $2,000,000 a fight from a defence of his WBO title.
AJ makes at least £10,000,000 per fight as all his fights are now on Sky PPV @ £19.95.

AJ Vs JP probably because its a unification fight makes £20,000,000.

Say it clears 800,000 PPV buys 800,000 x £19.95 = £15,960,000. I understand that won't get all the PPV purse but they will be on a guaranteed basic.

Fact is, 35% is £20,000,000 is 7million.

Parker can crib all he likes about the 75/25 mandatory position but 75% of 2m = 1.5m.... And that's basically what he earns per fight.

He doesn't deserve more than 25-30% MAX!

His previous highest purse has absolutely no relevance to this fight whatsoever. Joshua wants his belt. Parker thinks that is worth 35%. I think Parker is being perfectly reasonable.

35% is a shit load of money when you're fighting Anthony Joshua. What planet are Parker or his team on thinking they'll get more anywhere else

theyre also sure to be left with an ugly stoppage loss and no belt though, which is gonna damage his earnings for later fights id think. although jps already been not far off losing and blowing his cash out chance before.

Surely both he and his team believe 100 million percent he's gonna win though, no?

Disagree.
Boxers of a mediocre standard, let alone those at the top level, have an unbelievable level of self confidence and believe 100% they could walk through brick walls and beat any man put in front of them.

Hatton one million percent believed he'd beat Mayweather
Martin Murray one million percent believed he'd beat GGG
Tyson Fury one million percent believed he'd beat Klitchko

disagree. thats just some popular armchair sports fan misbelief. some boxers do but a lot dont. boxers are still humans and humans have doubts.

and you say his team believe 100 percent hed win. but being realistic is amuch needed quality for trainers and business ppl.plus why do you think we see so many fights with mismatched opponents? they know their investment wont be blown.

risk vs reward is a very real consideration. stupid to think otherwise.your saying theres 0 percieved risk on parkers end.

After AJ knocks out Parker in 1st round Parker’s career is practically over and he will probably never fight for HW title again due to him being exposed.

So he needs to sell his belt for as much as he can get.

yes, though his side also has to consider that hes been close to losing before to pretty average opponents. thats why its important to be realistic about his abilities. i think they should try for what they can, but if someone like miller, who isnt even that great, gets called as mando, they better work on making a cashout deal because jp would prob blow it at that level or be at major risk. i think even guys like breazele are major threats.as long as he can pick voluntaries hes okay though id think.

another route maybe is povetkin, who is high with the wbo and fighting the wbo #1 contender next. the russians have made very big bids previously obviously with wlad getting around 20m , and then wilder getting about 5m. pov is lower risk than aj and is almost 40, though still think hed beat parker.

70-30 seems pretty fair, it's more than a mandatory and not that far from the 65-35 that Parkers team just demanded.

I wouldn't worry too much about Parker's career after he loses his belt to Joshua. The Browne fight will still be there, also if one of the belts gets striped from Joshua in the future (not beyond the realms of possibility) he could probably end up fighting Ustinov or Molina for a vacant strap.

He hasn't knocked anyone out in one round since Gary Cornish.... And even then he was losing the round.

I think a popular armchair fan misbelief is that fighters, underdogs, don't believe in themselves and don't believe they're gonna win.
Obviously you have the demographic that dont go to win, and the demographic that aren't winners. But those at top level have an incredibly strong mindset.
I remember talking to Billy Graham about Hatton Mayweather before they fought. Billy and the whole team were million percent convinced Ricky would win.
Is Parker a bigger underdog against AJ than Fury was going to Germany to face Wlad? Did Fury and his team not believe they'd go there and win? When Martin Murray fought Martinez in Argentina he believed undoubtedly he'd win the fight.

I do not believe for a minute that Joseph Parker doesn't think he can beat AJ.
