More Bad News for Fight Academy

Post by boxingchat »

It appears that Steptoe and Son's 'title extravaganza' scheduled for Sheffield could be in danger as Sky TV have not committed to showing anything other than the Hatton fight from the US on 13th May.

Sky are cutting costs dramatically and taking only the HBO feed to save production which means that poor old Clinton Woods may be defending his title in Sheffield with no TV interest from Sky. This further bolsters the rumour that Sky have lost faith with UK Boxing and their current crop of Promoters and will be looking at importing tape delayed stuff only in future.

Clinton, Albert and Harold are hardly in a great position to negotiate a Calzaghe fight are they?

Hatton may well be coining it on 13th May but at what cost the rest of Sky's fighters and Promoters?

once again wrong information from BC, I hope he is more careful when he is polishing F's car!
Clinton will definitely be fighting live on Sky.
I would of thought Joe would of been keen to fight Clinton for 1m, that is unless F is going to get him a HBO deal??

BC your act is now very tired.

Turning up only to spout rumour and conjecture and never answering difficult questions - at one time you entertained - now you just bore me.

Why would he be keen to fight for £1m? Would you take a pay cut?

Youre dellusional, who do you reckon helped create this situation? Which UK promoter (who effectively had a monolopy on Sky's domestic boxing budget) was it that constantly failed Sky and its viewers over a 10 year period, promoting endless WBU crap and managing to get Boxing shifted from Saturday to Friday nights?

Its a good point - SN mismanaged their exclusive Sky deal and fed the TV station endless meaningless title matches and poor fair for far too long.

Others are now suffering SN's legacy.

Its ironic that SN are finally pulling their fingers out under the watchful eye of their new paymasters.

I presume BC now accepts Clinton will be live on Sky!
Albeit your command of the English language leaves a lot to be desired, it is clear that you are the one who needs to be educated.
I can't wait for you to tell me all the times Joe has been paid 1m, which by the way is 1/3 of what England's best paid boxer now earns.

How many times have Frank paid Joe in excess of what another promoter paid him for the Viet rematch I wonder?

BC, care to enlighten me?

Don't know why everyone has jumped on BoxingChat in this thread seeing as there is no mention on the Boxing Schedule (on the Sky Sports website) of Sky showing even Hattons fight (never mind Woods) which would suggest to me that they currently don't have the rights to show the fight as of this moment.

Why should Sky show Woods v DeLisle.

Woods was caught cold in the first but from the fifth round DeLisle was beaten for every second of every minute of every round.

Joe said he wasn't getting great money for the Lacy fight....

Agree the Clinton match is a poor one - the Aussi LOST his eliminator and still gets a shot?

It is a bad one, I think I would rather see Peter Haymer vs Woods than this.

BC whats your source ?

I reckon the Clinton Woods fight might get shelved anyway, as the IBF want Clinton to fight their mandatory Glencoffe (no 1 lightheavy for me ) for the third time!

He is alllowed voluntry defences but there is a time limit for mandatories.

I reckon the Glencoffe fight will happen June time.

As for SKY, I think your right - as it looks like their just going to stick with only friday fight night and Hatton fights - (hatton fights on a saturday) - could be because of this fightplus channel coming to the UK soon. Also any live saturday boxing will mess up their football line up on saturday night - the've got to get the footy highlights in before BBC's match of the day, whats the point - everyone watches match of the day anyway!!!!

The trick to Sky's TV Schedule is a bit of patience.

They often release 3 or 4 dates in one go, sometimes not too far from when the actual fights occur.

Don't be surprised if Mayweather-Judah is shown at some point.

But if prefer watching low key WBU featherweight title defences supported by that lumbering oaf Matt Skelton in front of a nearly half empty York Hall, then be my guest.

With respect BC, they are only being mentioned because you brought them up (or at least responded to an oblique reference to them).

BC does not know anything!

He never answers anything, revealing that he's just deluded.

answer the question.

How many times has Calzaghe made more than a million for a fight?

If you can't answer that, it will prove that your the tea boy.
