do tall skinny fighters not take punches as well
just seems like compared to other body types they are most likely to be chinny. weaker legs?less support from the neck?
any iron chinned stringbeans?
shabransky getting splatted tonight made me think of it

Nope. No such thing as an ideal body shape for taking punches. Far too many stocky, short necked fighters with chins made of glass over the years along with with scrawny body types with solid chins to shoot down any claim to body shape/chin level imo.

Eric Morales solid chin
Re: do tall skinny fighters not take punches as well
Simply put, whatever your body shape is I think you can either hold a shot or you can't
Certain physical things obviously can stand you in better stead, but I think it's simply a case of you got it in you to take it or you haven't

Carlos Monzon had one of the greatest chins in boxing history.
Re: do tall skinny fighters not take punches as well
Physics says that should be the case. I guess there's a correlation somewhere but there are many other factors involved. Sandy Saddler had an iron chin. Just one example.
You can't make any assumptions based on body shape.

To me saying a skinny fighter has a glass chin makes as much sense as saying a bloke with big muscles punches hard

Re: do tall skinny fighters not take punches as well
As others have said, there seems to be no correlation between body shape and punch resistance.
I think it’s mainly that tall skinny fighters just aesthetically tend to look a bit more vulnerable than squat muscular fighters, and ko’s against tall fighters tend to look a bit more spectacular, so the idea that they are more likely to be ‘chinny’ is perhaps an unconscious assumption rather than anything based in fact.

Re: do tall skinny fighters not take punches as well
There is no link between being tall and skinny and having a weak chin. There may be a link between being weight drained and reduced punch resistance as some tall fighters are if trying to fight at lower weight than their frame might suggest.
Re: do tall skinny fighters not take punches as well
Yea being weight drained won't do your shot resistance any good

Re: do tall skinny fighters not take punches as well
There have been examples of tall skinny fighters who have had excellent punch resistance.
But generally speaking....a slender frame isn't usually the most robust, so the theory holds a little water but its not a banker.

I think for what it's worth. Body shape/size has nothing too do with punch resistance Being relaxed is key.
Re: do tall skinny fighters not take punches as well
Weren't you fairly tall and skinny for the weight(s) you were fighting around? You could obviously take a dig etc... The point about being relaxed is a good answerjohnnygreaves wrote: ↑01 Dec 2017, 20:15 I think for what it's worth. Body shape/size has nothing too do with punch resistance Being relaxed is key.
