How do u view Kovalev?

Post by Jip »

Considering he won both ward fights, doesnt he has the best career p4p so far?

In all honesty, the second ward is debatable. Nobody can say for sure that without the 15 low blows that kovalev wouldve won. But also nobody can say that it was a crystal clear win for ward. Not even debatable since video evidence shows the amount of low blows and the final low Blow s with weeks waving off.

First fight a no brainer. Kovalev won.

So with wins of hopkins, ward and him looking as good as he has ever looked against shabranski he is back in the p4p top 10. I am impressed, i dont even like his arrogant atitude, but he can fight!

If you like him and thought he deserved nod in 1st fight: great

If you think he's P4P in top 10 now, you're reaching.

If you think he won the 2nd Ward fight, you're delusional.

how would you be reaching to have him top 10 now? he was like consensus top 3 going into first ward fight and its hardly unreasonable to think he slightly dederved that. doing that well against an atg like ward is a big deal.means far more to me then doing about the same vs say danny garcia or danny jacobs. and losing to arguably p4p 1 shouldnt be a huge knock.

boxing fans can suck. bitch for top fights, say lossess dont matter, then tear ppl down and say their broken when they lose.maybe you should bring up sullivan barrera again

Fair point on we want the best vs the best but then when the best loses to the best we no longer see them as best. The second half of Kovalev being in the top 10 is reasonable. But there is a lot of good comp for top 10. And if Kovalev is top 10 where was ward before he retired?

my view is hes very good and no worse than before. only elite fighters beat him and hes dangerous vs thosr. no one sround now is as good sd the guy who beat him, so he can think hes still thr top dog.

i think the other russians are a bit overhyped tbh, but hes been proven at a high level. think him, adonis, jack the best 3. oersonally felt peak adonis was the best non ward lhw hw but who knows how much hes got and if well see him tested again

ward #1

ya, when someone loses to the p4p #1 they are no longer the #1. no shit. they can still be best 10

Lh is arguably the best division in boxing.

I thought gvozdyk and bert would be huge problem and win against kovalev. Kovalev is still in his prime and hurts with either hands when he lands clear punches.

I am irritated. I have a real hard time to pick the best out of chickenson, bert, gvoz and kova. The division is red hot. The potential top match ups are crazy good.

Regardless if you think Shabransky was a punching bag or not I was very impressed last night. What a comeback. He displayed effortless power. He can pretty much float in on his feet and land relaxed, fast bombs. Lampley and crew had talked about Lemieux having this "special" power, Kovalevs the one that has the special power and that's because he knows where his range is...the outside and of course is a smarter better boxer with better technique. So hes a dangerous opponent from the outside, questions remain about how he is on the inside, questions still remain about his stamina but I feel he should have his confidence back and any fight hes in, not involving Andre Ward, would be exciting. In terms of who's the best in the LH division...given his past performances...some fights I feel would be very close on paper but I give him the slight edge...over everyone.

He can still cement a great legacy if he beats Jack/Stevenson winner, Bivol, Beterbiev, and Gvozdyk. That'd be an insane resume and considering he arguably beat Ward in their first fight, history would pay him great respect with an insane resume like that.

I stand 100% by my 1st and 3rd sentence. Perhaps my 2nd sentence is a bit off the mark as Ward was top 3 P4P so getting stopped by Ward isn't disgraceful.

He is very, very good and still top 10 P4P, although a little bit further down than he was before the Ward fights.

Even if you have him winning both fights, he isn't the destroyer that he was made out to be. He's more like a bully. When someone else bullies him, or he's against someone he can't bully, he isn't that mentally strong. He's a good fighter yes, but before the Ward fights, I was hearing that only a heavyweight would be able to beat him.

Beterbiev would smash Jack.

On the Kovalev topic, he was never top 3 p4p for me, 5-7 at best. I would have him between 8 and 10 now.

wasnt kov the underdog for both ward fights? did that many ppl say he was unbeatable?more than the amount who said he wouldnt even be competitive for either?i think just as many underrated him as overrated tbh. still think ppl dont full realize how impressive it is to fight close to 50-50 with ward. guys like froch, kessker, dawson, didnt come close.

i mean bert could win but jack has a lot more to him than bert. bert can hit but hes very limited. also i think hes more an accumulation hitter than the julian jackson type puncher hes hyped as.
