Golovkin: No Problem Fighting Canelo at Mexico's Azteca Stadium

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs) has no problem with fighting with fighting Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) at Estadio Azteca (Azteca Stadium) in Mexico.

Built in 1966, Azteca Stadium, the home of the Mexico national soccer team and largest stadium in the country, could hold 87,000 fans.

Golovkin and Canelo collided back in September, when the Mexican superstar made his official move to 160-pounds to challenge GGG for his middleweight crown.

If a deal is reached, the rematch would take place on May 5 - as part of Cinco De Mayo weekend.

While two sides have agreed on the date, no venue has been finalized - although T-Mobile Arena is the frontrunner.

Offers to host the rematch are flying in from Madison Square Garden in New York City, AT&T Stadium in Texas, and several other venues.
But Golovkin loves the idea heading over to Mexico to fight Canelo on his home turf.

"Actually, it seems like a great idea. I would absolutely love to fight at Estadio Azteca, I feel ready. If Canelo wants, of course, I'm ready, we should ask him," Golovkin told ESPN Deportes.

Golovkin would not be intimidated by venue packed with nearly 90,000 in attendance. He's become a fan favorite with Mexican fans - due to his come-forward power punching aggression that he calls "Mexican style."

Last week, Golovkin traveled to Mexico to take part in several functions. He visited children in the area of Oncology and Hospitalization of the Moctezuma Pediatric Hospital. He was praised by numerous officials and Mexican politicians. And, he also ventured to Azteca Stadium, where the boxer received a lot a loud ovation from the packed crowd.
