Even the money...there's guys on them lists worth 50 million. And yet never had a job in their life. I understand they launder a lot of that money. But surely theres a way to work out that someone that isn,t working can't be worth 50 million quid.

A lot of haulage companies are in on it as well.

Have a gander at this http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/ ... drugs.html

The fact that no attempt was made to hide the stuff shows it must have been a regular occurence.

Mental how hard it is to stop. Makes you wonder if its a problem they ve basically just gave up on. You never really hear of a cocaine shortage in Britain. Its not like their even shutting it down for a month or two. Seems to be a constant supply with very few of the big players getting caught for it. Crazy. What can you do. Just gonna get worse as well.

If you can buy legalised recreational drugs(which have been tested to some standard) from a shop you take away the drug gangs income, legalise prostitution too.
Yeah I get that mate. But would you not then be creating a bigger problem. As in half the country would be on drugs before long.
Not quite mate. Legalisation of drugs is working out very well in Portugal. And if you consider that alcohol is possibly the most harmful drug of all, half of the country isn't alcoholic just because it is legal. Like anything, addiction is often based more so on personality

My worry would be bearing in mind the British mentality we,d be a lot more likely to "get involved". Even just watch the Portuguese eating...it takes hours. Drinking beer they savior it on the other hand a trip to the brewers fayres here in britains finished in about fifteen minutes. We have about 8 pints to warm up. Cocaine comes out and we,re like gives the bag.

I m not sure Britain would be the best place for it. Although at this point it probably is worth a trial of some kind.

Think alcohols the bigger problem cause there's more people using it. Almost everyone outs drinking or drinking in the house etc I bet there's a lot less people on the drugs. Bet there's a lot more teenagers etc willing to get involved if it was legal. Interesting topic tho. In theory its a good idea but still a bit of a risk.

Whatever you do, people that are that way inclined will always find a way to make money

India took out one of there notes and made it so it's not legal tender didn't they?

Hurt criminals in the pocket but it hasn't stopped skullduggery

Drugs is big, big business, a very lucrative trade, but it is not the only form of earn for people wired up that way, by legalising gear people won't start taking carpentry and plumbing courses, they'll be very angry over it, then carry on with all the other stuff that brings in cash

I also think if you legalise gear you'll get all sorts of people who wouldlnt know , or be too frit to go to certain places to get it, "just trying it for the sake of it" possibly getting hooked & this could cause a spate in violent attacks , robberies, murders .

Alcohol ain't illegal & I know there's many people who ain't alcoholics , but too many who know nothing about drugs and there affects , if gov legalised, they may think to themselves "oh drugs can't be that bad then" and then loads of people try it .

Crime has been about since the dawn of time, you take one bit away, you may stop a large part of its income , but you can't legalise all crime , what next , Legalise arms dealing and people trafficking ? Remember heroin is a drug that ruins lives , can you really see the gov legalising heroin ffs, and if you legalise every other drug but heroin then you'll still have an earn , so will defeat the object of legalising drugs. Heroin is a scummy drug that truly sucks someone's soul, the gov ain't legalising that

Long as you ain't no nonce or proper wrong'un I don't care what you do

Very thought out response that mate, which is not common in today's world. The argument is, if Heroin was legal, for example, I still wouldn't touch it. Nor would 99% of people. The majority of people don't smoke anymore. Why? Education, they know it kills them. The problem isn't recreational drug use, it's drug addicts. Addiction is an illness. The legal status of drugs doesn't affect an addict one bit. It costs so money ££££££££ to lock up addicts and when will do, it never helps cure their addiction. It we transferred that money to mental illness support, recovery etc, drug addiction would go down dramatically (i.e. the Portugal model)

Where does that British mentality of binge drinking etc come from, out of interest? Genuinely curious why it seems so different to other cultures. The only thing I've seen similar is when Scandinavians come to Liverpool for the football and have a skinful because it's so much cheaper than at home for them. Surely it can't just be the price?

I don't drink anywhere near as much in Spain as I do here, even when I found a bar selling pints for a euro, must be the heat.

if certain drugs are made illegal, distribution is automatically handed over to criminals (by definition), which results in many of the socially undesirable side effects e.g. dangerously variable strength and quality of product, turf wars etc.

Weed in The Dam is an average of £10 per gram, which the street level dealers charge here in the UK, and what the UK Gov would charge, if not more. Wholesalers aka dealers, can undercut that massively, creating a black market. They'd be getting done by the tax man instead.

I think most people would rather spend the £10 and get quality bud that they know the quality of instead of buying from a dealer.
