Carl Froch: Mission Impossible for George Groves

Loads of middles were capable of making Froch look silly in sparring, because that was never his forte. His best attributes were rewarded by gruelling fights over the full 12, where his reach, engine and chin were equalisers against every slickster that wasn't Ward.

Ask Froch how he thinks he'd have done against Eubank in a pro fight and you'll get a different answer. Froch was simply a much better pro than amateur. Eubank can make almost everyone look bad in sparring — Golovkin, even — and probably knock out Joshua, but that's half the world away from a real fight.

Froch was a much better amateur than Groves and Eubank! One of our first world championship medalists.

He was a good amateur, but Calzaghe wouldn't have lost to Manfredo as an amateur, nor would Froch have lost to him as a pro. Worse pros than Froch have won Olympic golds.

It's a close fight ability wise. As someone else said, it's all about the pace of the fight. I still have reservations on Groves ability to last the full 12 rounds. Sure he has done it but he seems to fade as the fight progresses. If Eubank can set a good fast pace then he could wear Groves down and out point him with Eubank winning the first few rounds and the last few rounds with Groves taking a few in the middle. Somewhere around 115-113 Eubank.

people go on about groves lack of stamina, poor engine etc,,,but did he not go the distance in aclose fight with badou jack, or murray...two top fighters with excellent conditioning?
a lot of shite is being talked about this fight, particularly about eubanks lack of experience. theres only a years difference between them.and it seems eubank has had the benefit of sparring top fighters all over the place.
it seems to me that groves has had the balls to fight some top pros in real fights , wheras eubank, has been going after low level and static fighters who make him look good. When they upped their game by fighting saunders, they expected to take advantage of his small size and poor conditioning and poor discipline. saunders made him look stupid in the first half of the fight until he gassed. and we shouldnt forget that eubank shat his pants when it came to putting pen to paper with golovkin.

its one of those- quite rare, I'm a fence-sitter a lot of the time- when I just can't see why there is opinion so strongly and unequivocally in favour of Eubank.
