..being stupid and uneducated is nothing new and it doesn't bother me in the least except in those cases when the media attempts to sell local heroes as the role models, etc..

I never liked Pacquiao. He's a right winger. He's an ignorant, holier-than-thou type who supported that idiot Trump...

I'm a "right to life" conservative, but I don't say the people who don't believe what I believe are going to Hell or are bad people.. People and nations need to build relationships by searching for things we can agree on.. A number or those tend to lead to other areas of agreement and that's how you slowly build respect and trust. Not by saying people who are opposed to your views are offending God, and need to be ousted, imprisoned, shot, excluded and dealt with harshly. Pacquiao has blown off millions in product endorsements because of his political statements.

Where do you live, Dipshit? My guess is that it's not in a country in which 80% of your government consistently gets assassinated like the Philippines in a 5 year span. The place is the butthole of the earth and Manny is risking a cushy life to better his country even though the odds are that he will be killed. I bet your biggest worry during a work day is that someone didn't bag their trash correctly when you pick it up on your rounds. Btw, is your shift key broken?

I respect him greatly as a fighter in the ring, and what he's accomplished. I don't think much of him other than that, and don't care to hear his thoughts on any sort of questions of morality because he's clearly a misguided fool.

He's a bit of a mixed bag. As you know, he's become a senator of the philippines, and he's been really active in the senate despite having and preparing for his boxing matches abroad. He's charitable and is known for giving so much to the people. Whenever he goes abroad, he pays for all of his staffs and friends flight tickets etc. He's also building his own school to help young people as far as I know.

But...even though theres a lot of good things he's done, i think he is overly religious. Thus, he commented about gays being worse than animals etc pissing a lot of people off for good reason. Also what some don't know is that he was linked to a young actress before named krista ranillo, that he had an affair with and his wife being very upset about it. Despite that, both parties just kept saying no comment, and escalating the affair rumor further. I can't say that's true, but to me he's definitely not a saint, and even though I'm a fan, I am starting to hate the Pacquiao fans, always excuses!

This sounds like a complaint from 2011.

Unless you're complaining about people saying Pacquiao deserved the decision against Horn. Which he absolutely did...and that's coming from a guy that very much enjoys seeing Pacquiao lose.

I don't agree. There's a reason he steered well clear of that rematch, and the re-scoring further cements my opinion.

Exactly! Not a thought or a word for all the victims (and families) of the drug cartels. I used to be like that, worried about miscarriage of justice, until I realised how much life destroying suffering is inflicted by certain crimes. Sometimes there is no other way than violence, otherwise we wouldn't need police, armies or wars.

In the long term these kids need other opportunities, like boxing for instance, but in the meantime immediate action is required. I know its an extreme but apparently gold is on open display in stores Dubai. Here in the UK the need for security is growing daily.

I think the problem is PacMan can’t really speak out against it because he has too much to lose. Duterte knows Pacquiao personally, and Duterte is the president of HIS country. Pac lives there, he has to face him. I think Pacquiao could be saying that outta fear. It’d be like if Teofilo Stevenson or Felix Savon were to go and speak out against Castro. A very bad idea. I feel like Pacquiao’s done a lot for the people of the Philippines. If he were to speak out against Duterte, it could not only effect him, but it could also effect his family. And the reality is, a LOT of the people in the Philippines support what Duterte’s doing. It could cause some pretty serious ruckus if Pacquiao were to speak out. It could turn over half the country against him. To us in the western world it may seem absolutely crazy and inhumane what Duterte is doing, but over there I guess they see it differently. I personally don’t agree with mass murder without even giving people a fair trial, but I try to sympathize with Pacquiao. Apparently if you're not a druggie or a drug dealer or live near areas infected by Isis, the Philippines is safer and cleaner than it’s ever been. I just feel Manny speaking out about what’s going on isn’t even an option. It’s not like the USA where we can just go out and say EFF Trump or EFF Obama. You face WAY more serious consequences doing that over there. Especially if you’re the most popular figure of your country. I absolutely don’t agree with what’s happening there. But I understand why Manny has to pretend he supports Duterte

Athletes shouldn't speak out on political issues unless they're knowledgeable and persuasive... They're pissing into the wind otherwise.

I believe homosexual acts are wrong and abortion is wrong. I hate wasting a dollar of taxpayer money on frivolous nonsense -- but I'm the farthest thing from a Republican. I've been for civil rights and anti-war since the 60's and believe in a diverse and open society. I don't argue with people or get emotional. People are entitled to their point of view in this country. You're not going to force anyone to think independently. For the most part people are going to believe what their parents and schooling taught them for the age of 4 and you're not going to change their minds.

I think he's one of the people who actually urged and supported dDuterte to run for president from the start.

Duterte became very famous for being the mayor of the safest and most progressive place in the country, Davao City. His ways were admired as he managed to maintain peace and improve the lives of people in that city. Plus the crime rate is very low. People who live there say you can even leave your house open at night and no one would dare rob you.

That was why he was the perfect candidate to be the president because he's already proven himself as a leader and he knows what needed to be changed, unlike the rest of every politician who only says promises without any idea what to do to change anything at all.

Plus, he's the first ever to be elected president that didn't come from manila or anywhere in Luzon. He's from the south, in Mindanao. Hence, people liked him because he isn't corrupted and influenced by traditional politicians in manila. Thus, he isn't afraid to speak out and do what needs to be done because he doesn't need to please any higher ups etc.

That's good to know. Change must come from above because everyone below is usually in on the gravy train. For example India has enormous growth levels and is a huge economy but still has no clean water or regular electricity supply in many states. Everyone knows where the money is going but nothing can be done. Of course there are always enormous dangers for anyone who rocks the boat too much.

Manny Pacquiao is not perfect, nor claims to be, but might just be as honest a politician as you will find. Good luck to him.

It is PI. We are discussing a separate dimension here.

I disagree with the policy and Duterte is reprehensible to me, but most of us do not live and attempt to survive there (although I have business there and have spent considerable time there). I love the country and the people. They are hard workers and ambitious, generally. But it is also primal in ways, especially when you get to the outer islands.

I may criticize Duterte but he / they are dealing with ruthless criminal, political, and religious groups.

I don’t like him, from what I’ve seen/heard. I read a Jeff Horn article, post his victory. He said, during the early stages, in clinches, Manny was yelling “break”. After hearing this a couple of times Jeff decided to ignore it and rightly so.
