Re: Fighter of the Year Nominations
Sor Rungvisai so far, at this moment. My pick would be Estrada if he beats Sor Rungvisai, though. Crawford and Lomachenko don't have a win equivalent to Rungvisai or Chocolatito.
Nevermind, I just remember that Sor Rungvisai/Estrada won't be this year. Okay, it's hands down Sor Rungvisai then.

Why are they out? Is it because of the opposition?

Re: Fighter of the Year Nominations
They are certainly not out of the equation. Things can change fast in boxing and if Rigo wins in style, who would argue?
Personally, so far though, I'd go for AJ. That Klitschko fight was a classic. Afterwards I almost felt as though I'd been in the ring myself!

Re: Fighter of the Year Nominations
Felix Diaz and Indongo are complete nobodies in terms of p4p achievements. I'm not sure if you can even put Indongo as one of Crawford's top 5 best wins.
Compare that to having a win over an ATG like Chocolatito. Lomachenko beating Rigondeaux would be a very good win, but we can't forget that Lomachenko is dragging him up 2 weight classes. Now, Rigondeaux beating Lomachenko is a different story altogether. That would be a huge upsets and one of the greatest wins in quite some time. Easily, Rigondeaux beating Lomachenko would surpass Sor Rungvisai's win over Chocolatito.
Wins over Diaz/Indongo<Klitschko<Rigondeaux<Chocolatito.
Re: Fighter of the Year Nominations
Competition-wise, yes they are! AJ is also completely out of the equation. Beating a guy coming from retirement and off a loss isn't what makes someone a FoTY.Thomastearns wrote: ↑02 Dec 2017, 14:56 They are certainly not out of the equation. Rungvisai pulling off a major upset over an ATG in a razor-close fight and then knocking him out in the rematch. Only thing that would come close to this is if Golovkin had an official win over Canelo and Rigondeaux upsets Lomachenko. Discounting those two, no one is touching Sor Rungvisai's accomplishment. Anyone arguing differently is completely clueless.

Why not wait until the end of the year before nominations? Just a thought.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑02 Dec 2017, 11:16 Just to name some..

With that said, I picked GGG with is "win" over Canelo for the fighter of the year. If you think Canelo won, well....that speaks volumes.

We're in the last. It's just an idea to start thinking about what we've seen so far. Thread will still be here after Lom/Rig fight. so you can always comment afterwards.Badhusker wrote: ↑02 Dec 2017, 16:51Why not wait until the end of the year before nominations? 3G should be right there but for the gift draw to Gingerhead. If Rigo defeats Lomassiah it puts him right there also. But AJ by KTFO over WKlit after that back and forth will likely get him fighter of the year and it should probably also be fight of the year given that it will be remembered as one of the greatest HW fights of all time (no matter what some on here think).

Sor takes it for me.
Maybe breakout fighter of the year would be more fitting, though.

Hi this is my first post.
Are you people forgetting GGG struggled with Jacobs? More votes are needed for Rungvisai.
Re: Fighter of the Year Nominations
For now, definitely Terrence Crawford. If Lomachenko can decisively beat Rigo, he will take it

3G should have Ws over the two best fighters in his division; both P4Pers.
AJ defeated the best HW of this millennium, so far, in an epic foty candidate war that will be remembered longer than any othe fight in this year of many big fights.
Re: Fighter of the Year Nominations
rigo should win it if he beats loma. to me that would p4p be best win by far. ya the thai beat roman but i feel roman had over stretched his weight to a point where it means much less p4p. he also had a bad style for giving away size and strength. probably moot though because i feel rigo will be clearly beaten.
also there are some less radar guys doing well. ryan burnett unified vs okay opponents. ken shiro has had a standout year and can make it even better. milan melindo won title by knocking out 3x champ yaegisha in 1, defended vs recent champ budler, now going back to japan this year to try and unify vs another japanese champion. true that titles dont necessarily mean much these days but all 3 of these opponents were or recently were top 10 and are solid. i feel, by division, if melindo does that he may have the best rounded resume of the year though true none of those guys are elite p4p talents.
also nery with a really good year but failed dat ped test. berchelt good year too. wouldve been perhaps strongest contender if salido had gone ahead and hed won that.

You bring up a good point which is that I don't consider his bout against Canelo a win either.Tanzio wrote: ↑03 Dec 2017, 17:40Welcome, but you need to be figuratively slapped back into reality. The Asleep Lamps wrote: ↑03 Dec 2017, 16:15 Hi this is my first post.![]()

Chocolatito just went a weight class too far. Rungvisai just proved it, barely the first fight.

I just made this account to look at boxing records when boxrec started flagging you for looking at too many pages. I've spent numerous hours on this website looking at records but not at the forum.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑03 Dec 2017, 17:27Why have you never posted in 2 years? The Asleep Lamps wrote: ↑03 Dec 2017, 16:15 Hi this is my first post.![]()

Re: Fighter of the Year Nominations
Should be Rungvisai or possibly Golovkin. I'm sure some people will call for Lomachenko when he beats Rigo, but IMO the Marriaga win was worthless and Rigo is past his prime and jumping 2 weight classes.
Re: Fighter of the Year Nominations
Miguel Berchelt should not be a mere afterthought in this discussion. He beat Franciscos Vargas and Takashi Miura this year, and his boxrec rating more than quintupled in 2017. That is easily better than the 2017 accomplishments of Crawford, Garcia, and Golovkin. In fact, I am not certain that Crawford, Garcia, and Golovkin are better FotY candidates than Andre Ward, Leo Santa Cruz, and Ken Shiro.
Otherwise, I consider Sor Rungvisai (Wangek), Lomachenko - Rigondeaux winner, and Anthony Joshua to also be major candidates.

Jacobs vs GGG was really close fight. Close enough that in todays boxing the winner was actually decided by the economics.
