Mayweather v Hatton. Was the same night as my works xmas do and having already bought the ppv I was determined to do both. Got home well oiled after midnight and couldn't decide whether to set the alarm and have a kip or stay up and drink coffee for 4 hours. Ended up cracking a few more beers and fell into an alcohol-induced coma around 3am with the telly on. Woke up at the start of the 10th and watched two Ricky Hattons being knocked about by two Floyd Mayweathers assisted by two Joe Cortez' ffs. Had put a few quid on Hatton too even though I very rarely bet.

I had a dream the night before that Mayweather would win in the 10th so I put a tenner on it at 25-1

In answer to the thread quite a few of Hopkins fights, his fight with Winky was particularly mind numbing.

Haha, I don't think so. There's usually good support even if the main event is a let down so it's not always a regret.

I don't stay up too often these days, there's no one single boxer who I follow closely so I just pick the handful a year which I feel I have to make the effort for.

Was after a night out like a fair few of the late night fights.

Was pretty gutted after the ward Kovalev rematch though.

Watched Ward Kov 2 at an outdoor rave in the woods on my phone with some bloke who i’d just made friends with. It was horrible. But I was straight back to the party after. I hadn’t exactly stayed up for it. I was up and it was on. GGG vs Canelo was one I actually left a party to go and watch at home and then went back to the party when I couldn’t get a stream. I read the round by round on here while people danced around me and was royally pissed off with the draw.

I’ve never stayed up for a fight since. Both those fights killed the vibe at two really great nights out.

It was a school night and I went to the trouble of trying to block out any possibility of light showing through the door in my bedroom in case the folks went to the toilet, bought the KO magazine preview poster with all of my pocket money and Spinks sh1ts himself and folds like a deckchair.

Pretty much any Bernard Hopkins fight. He helped me understand that I didn't actually need to stay up for every fight that was available, I could just wait until the next day.

I was delighted at the result. Lewis fought a terrible, stinky fight. Dont think the Americans ever forgave him for that one. So much hype and he performs like that. He did the same against tua, youd need several grams of cocaine to stay awake for that one.

He won me over in the vitali fight. First time I actually cheered for him. He showed real heart and champions will in that fight. I remember being really annoyed that they were booing him after it

I really wanted to see him blast vitali in a rematch

Dunno Banjo, if memory serves quite a few others from that era in the states were, like Hagler-Hearns, Barkely-Hearns and Holmes-Frazier. Seems strange to do it midweek from a business perspective.

I think Hagler v Leonard was on a Wednesday, what a treat for midweek !

Ali-Spinks II at the New Orleans Superdome in September 1978, a fight I watched 'live' at the Odeon in Birmingham. Spinks was terrible, Ali was shot but slightly less terrible, Victor Galindez half-killed himself to make the weight and got his arse handed to him by the ordinary Mike Rossman, Danny Lopez landed one punch to wipe out a face-first Argentine in a few minutes, Jorge Lujan bored the hell out of everyone in the longest 15-rounder ever with an equally lifeless Alberto Davila, and the ungainly Marvin Johnson and a homesick Mircea Simon completed the bill - awful.

One of the hardest late ones was definitely Lewis v Tyson.

Had a lock in at our local and we started drinking late afternoon/early evening. Got pissed, struggled, fell asleep, woke up feeling rough, got pissed again and then walked home about 8.45am.

Felt like forever before the main event started, just had to wait and wait and wait. Was a tough night.
