Re: Suggestions for BoxRec
It is very hard as it means adding another column to each display. In some phone formats the tables are already cramped into the screen. We are always trying to improve the design but at the moment it isnt a priority.

Most people used to view the site on a computer monitor, nowadays over 2/3 are using a phone.

We try to make the site "responsive" but it is a lot of work getting good results across a whole range of screen sizes and devices ![[icon_witsend.gif] :witzend:](./images/smilies/icon_witsend.gif)
Re: Suggestions for BoxRec
Yeah, someone should tell the webmaster that there is a meta tag called "canonical" that tells Google which (language) page to index. Otherwise Google just does it randomly.People's Champ wrote: ↑20 Nov 2017, 20:59 Anyone else having an issue when I google a fighter's name to find the boxrec it defaults to random languages? Hungarian, Polish, French, etc.
Btw I have proposed to help translate the website into my language. No one even responded. Ignoring free help.. Sounds progress-wise; this place is half abandoned.
Re: Suggestions for BoxRec
Not sure if it has been noted...but is it feasible to have an all function for searching for future fights via tv...so we could see all the fights scheduled for some tv...this in addition to the channel by channel function you have

Re: Suggestions for BoxRec
Would it be possible to add the actual age of the fighters when they turned pro and retired?
The front page for Mike Tyson says debut 1985-03-06 but having (18 years 8 months) in brackets next to that date would be great.
It would need another row for 'last fight' so again for Tyson it would be 2005-06-11 (38 years 11 months)
If including the months is too complicated just their age would still be handy

Re: Suggestions for BoxRec
Is this the issue with the watchlist if I can't see it since the changes?
I think I had like 900+ people on my watchlist lmfao. Thats a lot of guys I gotta delete.
Is there some easy way to delete retired/inactive fighters from your watchlist IF YOUR LIST DOESN'T EVEN SHOW UP ANYMORE. Or do I just need to make a new account & start over?
Re: Suggestions for BoxRec
This techie stuff is way beyond my pay grade, but I'd like to be able to do searches with undefeated fighters where I have options for 5 or 10 or so fights as well as doing searches such as <30 years old.

Re: Suggestions for BoxRec
I think it would be good to go back to adding a countery name to location of a bout on fighter's record page - Right now you only get location of region, countery and venue - and only a flag of a country.
Not sure if I explain that correctly, but if I looked at Sugar Ray Robinson's record and I wanted to see how many times he fought in Italy, for example, previously I could've just clicked "Ctrl + F" in google and type Italy and it would highlight each such occasion. Right now I have to scroll through entire page looking at the flags.
It's not that important, but I found it useful when I could just search by word in my browser to highlight all the fights that fighter had in certain country.
Anyway - just something to consider in the future

Having the fights numbered again and having bout details able to be seen on the same page again would be great.
Re: Suggestions for BoxRec
In a fighters career stats when i click on 'view this bout' i'd like to see the fighters boxrec rank before and after, same as how you show boxrec points before and after. i was interested in were you had jeff horn ranked before he beat pacquiao, historically it would be interesting to look back at.

Ranking is much more complicated than you might think, escpecially more complicated than the point rating.StarLord25 wrote: ↑04 Jan 2018, 04:01See it's not only me that sees no prob with this but I guess 'it's not for boxing scribe' like some obnoxious guy keeps saying in this thread.dWd wrote: ↑03 Jan 2018, 17:48 In a fighters career stats when i click on 'view this bout' i'd like to see the fighters boxrec rank before and after, same as how you show boxrec points before and after. i was interested in were you had jeff horn ranked before he beat pacquiao, historically it would be interesting to look back at.
Current ranking is done once a day, by simply adding the ranks after the daily ratings program run.
In order to keep track of the pre-bout and after-bout ranks, the program would have to consider not only the 2 boxers in a bout, but also for every bout:
- all boxers leaving current rankings due to inactivity
- all boxers losing points due to missing opponent quality penalties and so changing rank
- all boxers changing weight division due to a defining bout getting out of scope
- saving the pre-bout and after-bout ranks in 4 additional fields in the database

Re: Suggestions for BoxRec
But I meant like a screenshot, just the ranking for that time when they fought to get an idea of their quality of opposition. Maybe that could replace seeing the points before and after on the bout page. But you could still show the points change on the record page.computerrank wrote: ↑04 Jan 2018, 06:01Ranking is much more complicated than you might think, escpecially more complicated than the point rating.StarLord25 wrote: ↑04 Jan 2018, 04:01See it's not only me that sees no prob with this but I guess 'it's not for boxing scribe' like some obnoxious guy keeps saying in this thread.dWd wrote: ↑03 Jan 2018, 17:48 In a fighters career stats when i click on 'view this bout' i'd like to see the fighters boxrec rank before and after, same as how you show boxrec points before and after. i was interested in were you had jeff horn ranked before he beat pacquiao, historically it would be interesting to look back at.

Re: Suggestions for BoxRec
I didn't think it would be so complicated to record a fighters boxrec rank on the day of a fight and then again after the next update and leave it there on the view this bout page for later reference. i tend to use the before and after points to estimate what their rank would have been, if the actual numbers were there i wouldn't have to guess.
Re: Suggestions for BoxRec
The ratings are in continuous flux as more bouts are added and the rating algorithm is improved.dWd wrote: ↑04 Jan 2018, 23:56 I didn't think it would be so complicated to record a fighters boxrec rank on the day of a fight and then again after the next update and leave it there on the view this bout page for later reference. i tend to use the before and after points to estimate what their rank would have been, if the actual numbers were there i wouldn't have to guess.

We know they're in constant flux. But it must be possible to having the pre bout rating and post bout rating like a screenshot, you just take what they ended up being place in that moment and leave it there.John wrote: ↑05 Jan 2018, 08:21The ratings are in continuous flux as more bouts are added and the rating algorithm is improved.dWd wrote: ↑04 Jan 2018, 23:56 I didn't think it would be so complicated to record a fighters boxrec rank on the day of a fight and then again after the next update and leave it there on the view this bout page for later reference. i tend to use the before and after points to estimate what their rank would have been, if the actual numbers were there i wouldn't have to guess.
The ratings points could still be shown with the option on the main page and instead of showing pre fight and post fight points on the bouts page, the rating numbers could be shown instead.
