Both in their primes, who would win?

Leon Spinks wins easily if it's the same guy as his first Ali fight.

He may be a rook who doesn't have a complete game -- but he's still way too fast and skilled for the bloated bartender.

That bloated bartender rocked Joe Louis a few times and actually knocked him down. I think Louis would have beaten Spinks at least as badly as he beat Galento. Galento also gave Max Baer, Lou Nova, and Ernie Schaaf all they could handle.

Well... Then you also have to ask, how well could Baer, Nova, and Shaaf box??? ... Could they box as well as the best Leon Spinks?

Louis would obviously beat Spinks... We're not talking Louis -- we're talking bloated bartender Galento who had an extremely limited game.

My point isn't that Louis would beat Spinks, it's that I personally believe he would likely beat Spinks at least as bad as he beat Galento, if not worse. Also, Max Baer was a former world champion and contender for years after that. He also beat Max Schmelling. In my opinion, both Spinks and Galento were fringe contenders, despite Spinks beating an aging, likely early Parkinsons Ali. Also, they could both arguably be described as unorthodox and undisciplined brawlers in my opinion. They both charged straight ahead swinging.

Leon might have been the more talented boxer and certainly the better looking physical specimen. But he was a hit or miss professional and one with a shaky chin. Tony Galento for all his shortcomings was a dangerous fighter who hit hard and knew how to fight dirty and get away with it. It's not unreasonable to think that Leon might have won a decision or scored a late stoppage as he WAS after all an Olympic gold medalist and linear world champ.... But something tells me I shouldn't put money on it..

If you think Leon Spinks was a brawler at his best, you need to watch his 1st fight with Ali and his fight with contender Alfio Righetti, 27-0.. He had very good athletic ability, speed, and fair skills... He never developed his professional skills to a super degree---because he had only 7 fights when he beat Muhammad Ali for the Heavyweight Title---you don't push anyone that fast.. But he was able to make fighters like Ali and Righetti miss, and make them pay.. He would put a beating on the crude Galento and stop him.. Spinks fell off an express train, it's unfortunate.

Spinks' problems after the Ali victory were drinking, drugs, and anti-social behavior... He regretted beating Ali for all the hate that came down on his ass from St. Louis cops and others... He had a good driving record before he won the title -- but he once got 4 traffic tickets in a week.. He went a little bonkers.. After a while he stayed home and watched soaps all day.. When he went out he made sure he was soused or high, which he thought made it easier to deal with people... He was a very recognizable individual, and not ready for fame.
