Tyson Fury on Dave Allen’s podcast

Post by Cyclops »

Apologies if there’s already been a thread about this on this board. Listened to this today and found it entertaining and Fury was back to being likeable and not coming out with any of the guff he is infamous for: much better than his recent Ifilm interview which still seemed very negative. I know Fury will never be media trained or have PR man but he could do worse than align himself with the extremely likeable Allen who seems to get the absolute best out of him.

Well worth a listen even if you are not a big fan.

I don’t know whether he’s trolling or not but he talks about having had 16 bare knuckle fights in barns and winning them all. Dunno if that’s true but i’m sure that’s the sort of bingo that’ll have Fury’s biggest fans on here (i’m talking to you, Rufus) foaming at the gams.

For all his talk im not convinced about furys heart.

First McDermott fight he lost and didnt go all about to turn it around. And we all know he lost lets be real.

Wlad fight he talked a big game and threw very little on the backfoot all night. I really wouldnt have been surprised to see wlad get that decision in germany. Bookies had wlad 4/5 before the scores were read out.

I didnt see much heart in those fights.

Disagree, don't think there's anything vwrong with his heart.

He got dropped hard by Cunningham and came back to KO him and didn't he get dropped by Firtha too and came back strong to KO him.

He gave Big John an immediate rematch and stopped him!

There's an interview with Fury early on in his career in Boxing Monthly - I might see if I can dig it out but from memory Tyson was pictured in a gown looking ready to walk out for a fight in front of a couple of caravans. Anyway, I found it very interesting at the time that he seemed really dismissive of the bare knuckle scene. 'I've seen a few fights on video and they're rubbish' etc.

I doubt the BK stuff, he's always been a talented boxer, doubt his dad and uncle would want him to get involved in all that.

Unsure how his (winning) tactics in the WK fight suggest he lacks heart?
Footwork and timing won that fight for Fury, WK didn't land anything significant on Fury across 12 rounds. I may have misinterpreted your comment but just because he talks a different game to how he fights doesnt mean he lacks heart, he is just promoting himself - and you cant say he does a bad job at that.

Because the fight is completely misrepresented as if fury won 120-108. He was in Germany and fought a backfoot fight throwing little and not going for it. The bookies had Wlad 4/5 at the end and Fury could well have lost the decision. If he had real heart he would have tried to win the fight conclusively. If the judges gave Wlad that fight e everyone would be criticising fury for not doing enough

I think we probably have different definitions on fighters heart then.

Out of interest, would you say Darren Barker lacked heart against Geale for example? Close fight, that almost everybody had Barker winning but ended up being a SD? (I'm aware its a bit of an extreme example, but I'm intrugued to see what you consider to be heart)

Have you listened to it, Mickey? I only listened to it once but it isn’t just a throw away comment. He talks about doing most of them with a jab and how there isn’t a lot of money in it. I’m sure we’d have heard more about it if he’d really been at it but it’s interesting to hear him talk about it even if he is taking the piss.

Fair enough mate, I will admit to occasionally being bias towards Fury which may be skewing my opinion on it.
