Cotto seemed to throw right hand infrequently after 2nd round
Did anybody else notice this, I was wondering if he hurt right hand or shoulder. He threw right hand even rocking ali once with it but didn't seem to throw it much. I didn't see him complain about right hand later although I know it turned out he had torn left bicep any comments?

Ali was not a great style matchup for Cotto. Miguel had issues catching him flush all night. His lefthook to the body was his most successful weapon in the fight.victor-romeo wrote: ↑03 Dec 2017, 17:33 Did anybody else notice this, I was wondering if he hurt right hand or shoulder. Ali is quick, slick, and legit, though nothing special.

He tore his left bicep. Surgery today.victor-romeo wrote: ↑03 Dec 2017, 17:33 Did anybody else notice this, I was wondering if he hurt right hand or shoulder. Maybe he just needs a little saltwater to heal up.

If Ali is slick, quick, and legit, Jesse Vargas must be something special.Tanzio wrote: ↑03 Dec 2017, 17:44Ali was not a great style matchup for Cotto. Miguel had issues catching him flush all night. Are you one of those who write off fighters with one loss v a quality pro?Badhusker wrote: ↑04 Dec 2017, 19:33If Ali is slick, quick, and legit, Jesse Vargas must be something special.Tanzio wrote: ↑03 Dec 2017, 17:44Ali was not a great style matchup for Cotto. As many greats from the past showed fighters can learn and improve as a result of defeats.

No. I criticized Cotto for selecting someone first of all from the weight below, and second of all one that got KO'd by a light hitting welterweight. I would still criticize Cotto even if he won. It has nothing to do with how good Ali was or seems to be now, or that I dislike Cotto. It is a big joke that Ali is a 154lb champ. Someone will take it soon, and/or he will go back to 147. Perfect fight for Kell Brook.

What “is a big joke” is the importance you place in an alphabet belt. This was a retirement fight for Cotto and a showcase for his opponent. Cotto would have likely been awarded the decision if he had not been injured mid fight. Even if he had managed to squeak out the decision, Ali’s stock would have increased.Badhusker wrote: ↑05 Dec 2017, 08:40No. I criticized Cotto for selecting someone first of all from the weight below, and second of all one that got KO'd by a light hitting welterweight. Ali is nothing special but I will watch his next fight if it is convenient.

For the record I like Sadam Ali. I like his style, and give him props for beating Cotto at a weight he has never fought at previously. My criticism of Cotto's selection stands though, retirement fight or not. The same as Pacquiao's supposed retirement fight vs Horn. Both of those fights make Floyd's fight against Berto look good. At least Berto was a 2 time champ, and welter champ for 2 years. You could call Lomanchenko Rigo's retirement fight too, at his age. His balls are much bigger than Floyd, Cotto, or Pac combined. He is going up two weights taking on a prime top 5 pfp guy at 37 yrs of age.Tanzio wrote: ↑05 Dec 2017, 10:03What “is a big joke” is the importance you place in an alphabet belt. I think Cotto learned to use weight advantages to the fullest since being with Roach, along with good matchmaking....not any improvement in his style or technique.

I agree with most of that, with the exception of the FMJ v Berto part.Badhusker wrote: ↑05 Dec 2017, 19:38For the record I like Sadam Ali. I have no problem with Cotto cashing in for the last few years. He deserved it and did it in interesting fights.
Not a GOAT or an ATG, but Cotto was good for boxing.

It was a very good fight. Anybody still bitching about the match up needs to move on to their next complaint.

Yes, it was, but so was let's say Rios vs Alvarado 1. Two decent fighters of the same level without too much running or dirtiness make it a good fight.SaadOffTheDeck wrote: ↑05 Dec 2017, 19:58 It was a very good fight.
