Bloody hell. I had a look at his record thinking that his last fight was a couple of years ago and it was in 2002. Where has the time gone?

He had dodgy shoulders. F*ck knows where he is now. I've asked on a West Ham forum to see if he's still in the manor.

It's funny, but many fighters, especially those from London, who retire from boxing early stay in the game in one way or another. Whether it's trainer, pundit or just 'face'. He just seems to have vanished.

He was a plasterer I think and the strain that it took on his shoulder ruined him. Fought Kirkorov on a Wayne McCullough undercard and that was it.

Real shame as we never worked out if he was good, or whether Gomez was just drunk after being in a nightclub Thursday night before the fight.

Drunk or Charlied up...but on certain nights he could function, as we saw with the win against AAA!

I remember an interview I did with a young Manchester pro who went on to have huge success. He was blown away someone like Gomez could blow his talent when there were years to do that lifestyle upon retirement.

Kevin Lear would've beaten Gomez anyway, he was a class boxer and deceptively tough. The hard man image of Gomez wouldn't have bothered him in the slightest.

I was expecting someone to say he was a bit of a street kid, who was happy if he had enough money in his pocket for a bet!
I think an old trainer or someone said that, and it has been repeated ad vertum ever since!
Actually I don't think we have ever really had an update on him

Johnny Eames said it in boxing monthly. I came across Lear at a young age because he boxed a friend of mine in a few schoolboy finals. He was a "streetwise" kid, but so was my pal, who beat him as well (they beat each other).
