Well I was about to talk about the Mark Kaylor Errol Christie bout but was shocked to doscover that it was only a British eliminator fight :oo

But it's too good not to mention. Sorry :salut:

Christie was 20(19)-1(1) with his loss being a 46 second kayo loss to Belgium's Jose Seys.

Kaylor was 29(24)-3, with his three losses being a DQ, a KO & a points loss to Tony Sibson.

There was a racial element to the build up & they scuffled before the fight. The atmosphere was incredible & the fight lived up to expectations.

Two great British title fights that have always stuck in my memory are:

George Feeney v Ray Cattouse

and

Tom Collins v John Moody

Clinton McKenzie took part in a few (Powers, Morrison, Mittee, Marsh); Alan Richardson outscored Les Pickett in an epic 15-rounder in Aberavon in 1977, televised by the Beeb. Alan Minter's second win over Kevin Finnegan in 1976 deserves a mention, with Minter wobbling all over the ring in the 15th round. Sibbo outgunning Frankie "The Animal" Lucas in 1979 is another classic.

I saw all of these (except Richardson v Pickett) and wouldn't disagree with your views. I thought Finnegan won all 3 of the fights with Minter.
Gomez v Arthur would, however, be the best for me; with Daws v Wright probably the best for atmosphere.

Michael Ayres v Colin Dunne. An outstanding contest that epitomises what the Lonsdale Belt means.

Kaylor ruined Christie in this fight.

Two great choices. Feeney-Willis was so hard (won by Feeney in the 14th round) it convinced the Board to reduce British title fights to 12 rounds in the wake of the Ray Mancini-Duk-Koo Kim disaster a month later, which also ended in the 14th round. Feeney would later give Mancini a stiff battle.
