Tyson Fury UKAD Hearing Starts Monday, Facing 4 Year Ban

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Tyson Fury's hearing relating to his suspended drugs ban will begin next Monday and may last for several days.

Last month it was revealed by the former heavyweight champion's promoter, Hennessy Sports, that the delayed appointment with UK Anti Doping [UKAD] month.

Fury - inactive for two years - and cousin Hughie were charged in 2016 after testing positive for a banned substance.

He is currently determined to be back in 2018, though, with British rival, world champion Anthony Joshua, in his sights, and has been sharing footage online of his return to training.

Fury has been shaving off the weight while training with friend and former world champion Ricky Hatton, who believes the heavyweight can bounce back strong.

There is some heavy concern, because he's facing a 4 year ban in the hearing with UKAD. Fury has also been charged with failure to provide a sample in September last year. He must get through the hearing in one piece in order to reclaim his license to box.

If UKAD dont ban him Fury will sue. What is the other option?

My guess: A two year ban (already served) and reinstatement of his boxing licence.

Just give the guy a license to fight already. He'll just get fatter, and not fight anyway...what's the difference whether he's licensed or not?

I think he gets a backdated ban that runs until 1/1/18 allowing him to resume his career in 2018...

What exactly is Fury up for? Is it for the test he allegedly failed for Nandrolone months in advance of beating Klitschko, the test he allegedly failed for cocaine ahead of the proposed rematch with Klitschko or a refusal to take a test late 2016? Is it a bit of everything?

Sorry I've not followed the in's and out'of this closely over the past 2 years. Regardless of his mental state during that period of his life, that some people think has been a masterful performance to try and muddy the water, if he is proved guilty of doping I can't see any potential ban backdated.

Same here, I haven't followed it that closely but I have no idea what the charges are or what the issues have been in the process.

I reckon UKAD and the Furys have come to a compromise, the Furys will not sue (and potentially bankrupt) UKAD and they will give him a 2 year ban for the beak that will be backdated 2 years.

Also, what are the charges/issues with Hughie? - there is something not right in this whole scenario with all parties involved.

Anyone have any idea on how long this sort of thing usually takes? I'm guessing that this will take 10 times longer than the normal procedure.

Rangi Chase is a professional rugby league player.

He tested positive for cocaine after a game in July. A couple of weeks ago he was banned from playing for 2 years - the whole process took 4 months from start to finish.

And don't forget the beak was September 2016 so he won't be able to fight until late next year.

Ok a 12 month ban then!

Reduced from 2 years due to his well documented mental health issues that UKAD are working with and supporting him through.

UKAD are shocking here. Takes this long just for a HEARING.

Yet 🇬🇧 sporting royalty Brad Wiggins gets given a free pass even though; we all know he’s just a shite Lance.

I'm guessing the only way the standard ban would be reduced for mental health is if he has been sectioned.

WBA and WBO both asked for evidence to back up Fury's claims that he was suffering from an illness and he provided none. As far as anyone can ascertain the evidence we have for Fury's 'well documented mental health problems' are Fury himself, and that's it.

Why do people get banned for taking recreational drugs? It's not as if they enhance performance is it?

Wiggins has the advantage of having the Olympic cycling team behind him, Fury's from a close knit family set up while promoted by Chunk from The Goonies.

And Mo Farah - how many tests has he missed?

On one occasion the tester was at his house ringing the bell, knocking on the door, ringing his phone and his mobile for over an hour but poor Mo didn't hear him and didn't answer the door - his gaff must be fookin massive!

Good point about the speed of the case being dealt with. However, Zak Hardaker is a high profile RL player too, he was provisionally suspended in early October after testing positive for cocaine allegedly a month earlier, I fully expect him to be banned for two years within a similar time range to Rangi Chase. That is just one player though, the club carries on regardless, if Tyson and Hughie get busted then Team Fury is seriously derailed and possibly finished forever.

I think the difference is that boxing doesn't take doping half as seriously as rugby league does and that Tyson Fury has a lot more money at his disposal to challenge and delay the due process. Team Fury are only in the business to make money and gain fame for the foreseeable future whereas Widnes and Castleford RL clubs have a long history and tradition to uphold with a commitment to their clubs future standing, therefore they will be much more inclined to swiftly ditch any player who undermines that creed.

I think the BW saga is a bit dodgy too, hardly on the scale of Armstrong though! I can't take cycling seriously, the whole sport has been addled with PEDs for donkeys years seemingly
