They claim to have found a microscopic amount of something that was perfectly legal up until a couple of months before in one out of many so-called drug tests on the Russian champ and whoa now it's the end of the world! They want to totally destroy his career
Actually, they were forced to ADMIT that Povetkin PASSED all the tests -- because he only had 70 nanograms of Meldonium in his worst test and and 999 nanograms PASSED... The cutoff was 1 milligram (1000 nanograms) which is still a minuscule amount, but you cannot have it in your test sample and pass.
They said they were "suspicious" because Povetkin tested totally clear in one test -- and a later test he had a miniscule 70 nanograms (which passes) in his sample.. This can easily be explained and WAS explained to VADA and the WBC that the different readings were only due to differing levels of hydration.
For instance.. Normal urine color ranges from almost clear, to pale yellow, to deep amber — it’s the result of a pigment called urochrome and how diluted or concentrated the urine is.. If you’re more hydrated which means if you had more water to drink your urochrome reading will be much less and you will pee more clear..
If you’re less hydrated, and maybe very thirsty, your urochrome level will be much higher and you will pee amber. But no matter how amber or clear your urine is, you still can’t have more than 999 nanograms of Meldonium for the particular test Povetkin produced a slight reading for but passed.
The Wilder-Povetkin Fight should have gone forward... There was no legal reason to stop it and Povetkin could probably win a law suit if he hired an honest attorney who couldn't be bought off by Wilder's side -- and was extremely competent and persuasive.
