Welshman Lee Selby will make the fourth defence of his IBF Featherweight World Championship against undefeated Mexican Eduardo Ramirez.

Ramirez (20-0-3, 7 KOs) is a 24-year-old southpaw from Los Mochis, Sinola, Mexico with fast hands and a solid defence. He is managed and trained by Montiel Jr., brother of the five-time World Champion and former Selby challenger Fernando Montiel.

“Ramirez is a very good unbeaten fighter and he comes from a good stable,” said Selby. “He’s trained by Fernando Montiel’s brother, Fernando was a former challenger of mine and his brother is a very experienced coach.

“He has a decent ranking with the IBF (#11) and you don’t get there by accident, he’s worked his way into the mix and he’s going to give me a tough test. He’s a southpaw which is another challenge for myself.

“There’s a lot of pressure on this fight, one loss will mess up my whole career. There’s massive fights to be made against Josh Warrington and Carl Frampton next year so it’s vital that I come through this fight.

“This show has everything, you have two of the best technical boxers in the country in myself and DeGale, and then you have two of the best prospects in the country in Yarde and Dubois. I’m proud and honoured to be a part of this bill.”

You can't begrudge him for saying that but I'd not be shocked if Selby and DeGale were posted up around the 1/100 mark to win their fights.

It's amazing to think these are world title fights.

Ramirez is unbeaten but he hasn't fought anyone of note, this fight seems like filler until the Warrington fight, understandable but considering some of the opponents Selby's had to face since become world champ, I cant be arsed with another Selby 12 round domination, credit to him for the way he dealt with Barros last time after losing his mum, he was superb that night, cant see him having any problems with Ramirez, hopefully he can get a stoppage

Shock weight issue hits Lee Selby v Eduardo Ramirez clash

Lee Selby's IBF featherweight title defence against Eduardo Ramirez has hit a snag due to the challenger scaling highly during fight week.
Under British rules, Ramirez had to weight no more than 130 pounds for the 126 pound fight on Wednesday, although the Mexican actually came in at 134 during the check.

This initially put the contest in doubt, whilst the IBF have informed WBN this does not necessarily mean a complete end to this weekend's title encounter in London.

"The IBF rules do not require a 3% (3.8 pounds) three-day weight check as required by the BBBC. Ramirez weighed 8lbs above the limit of 126 lbs required for the championship. Therefore the BBBC will not allow him at this point to weigh less than 128lbs at the weigh in on Friday," Jeanette Salazar exclusively told World Boxing News.

"It is now up to the promoters of each fighter to determine whether the fight happens or not. However, the BBBC won’t allow it to happen unless their conditions are met.

"If the fight does happen, and providing Selby makes weight on Friday and Saturday, IBF Rule 1.A.2. will apply.

“It states: 'If the Champion makes the weight and the Challenger fails to do so, the fight may be staged with the understanding that the Champion will retain his title whether he wins or loses the bout.'"

At this point, it seems unlikely the IBF championship will be on the line due to the Board's weight safety issues and more on the issue is expected to be revealed on Friday.

Selby would not want to cancel the bout completely and then face the prospect of fighting just twice in the past two years, whilst it does look extremely doubtful Ramirez will be able to compete for the Welshman's belt.

Unlucky , don't think so , he gets to keep the title regardless , Can't believe a contestant comes in like this for a world title fight , he's not a bit overweight , he's a who gives a fook anyway overweight . 117-111 Selby for me, all in all I thought it was a good performance, most of the time he looked sharp, quicker to the punch and there was no doubt he was the better boxer technically, his footwork is excellent, even when he was missing with a 1st shot he would come back with a second to find the target

He did have a lull in the 2nd half of the fight though, it looked at one point he was gonna get Ramirez out of there and when Ramirez hung around, Selby seemed to switch off and Ramirez to his credit started to pour it on which made Selby look uncomfortable, Selby finished strong though and had his best round in the 12th, Ramirez was hurt to the body and looked ragged

Another one of those Selby fights where you cant help but feel a but uninspired despite him dominating, Warrington will bring the best out of him
