The Background info
New Jersey - many years ago in a cold bedroom, a young boy dreamed of being a World Champion. He dreamed of fame and fortunes untold, of winning big fights, of gathering gold straps and of the people singing his name.
"Marvin The Great" they would call him, "Magnificent Marvin" was another... Yet despite training hard and aiming for the stars it was all to no avail.
Due to a slither of broken promises from Promoters, reneged agreements from so-called "friends" and contract disputes which have been dragging on for a long time - young Marvin has been inactive for a long while and the fights he does get are the small-time affairs of the better-than-average fighter...
His critics have even branded him - "Marvin The Unloved".
But Marvin wants to prove them all wrong...
As such, he has signed a 13-fight contract with Don Krease of Don Krease Promotions.
And without further ado, I now present the 10 Questions with Marvin
Q1 Why did you sign with Don Krease Promotions?
MH: It was just a natural step really. I currently hold a minor belt (CPU title) but after talking with Mr Krease I have decided that I will relinquish it after my next fight. I want to try and fight for bigger prizes and I know that I need a Manager to get me up there.
Q2 And just to confirm, you will be dropping your belt soon?
MH: Yes, very soon. After my next fight. I have great respect for Jake LaMotta, he is a great fighter and he's as tough as they come. I think it will be a fight that all true boxing fans will savour. So I'm taking this fight and win, lose or draw - we are moving on.
Q3 Your record as it stands is 17 wins, 8 KO victories, 2 draws & 2 losses, aren't you happy with that?
MH: It could be better. Things can always be better. But that's all in the past now, we are looking forward and I know that I have the potential to be a bigger name and go higher in the rankings and achieve my dreams.
Q4 What dreams would they be, Marvin?
MH: To become World Middleweight Champion. I have never done that. Beating lower ranked fighters can only get you so far, and there comes a point when you need to take responsibility of where you are and think to yourself, I need a little bit of help for me to climb this mountain. There aint nothing wrong with admitting that we all need a little help sometimes.
Q5 And you think that your new promoter could help you with that?
MH: Yeah obviously. When I sat down and spoke with Mr Krease, he told me that he believed that I was one of the best fighters in the world, that he had full belief in my potential and that he would do his best to get me in big fights.
Q6 But you've missed so much of the season, don't you think you've missed the boat?
MH: There aint nothing I can do about that. I've signed with Don Krease this week, it has happened now for better or for worse and I'm going to give this opportunity my all.
Q7 Pundits are saying that you probably have missed out on The Super Six with this late restart in your career, doesn't that bother you?
MH: Yeah it does. But all I can do is go out and try and win one of them elusive straps, to fulfill my childhood ambition, then we'll take it from there. As I keep saying and telling people, I only want the big fights...
Q8 The big fights you say and who would they be against exactly?
Sugar Ray Robinson, Harry Greb, Ray Leonard - I don't call him "Sugar" because he aint that good. I also want to have a trilogy with Carlos Monzon - Don Krease told me that he can make those fights easily. I'd also like to have a look at Ezzard Charles & Archie Moore.
Q9 It has been suggested to us that a fight between you and Tommy Hearns would be "A War", any thoughts on that?
MH: Hagler vs Hearns yeah, absolutely. If that's a fight that the fans want to see, then yeah I'm all for it. Maybe even a trilogy to see how it goes, I'm love to go punch-for-punch with Tommy, I hear that he hits hard!!!
Q10 And lastly, have you got a message to your prospective rivals out there?
