Jeff Horn vs Gary Corcoran - Dec 13th in Brisbane

Post by Like a Boss »

Terms for Jeff Horn vs Gary Corcoran for Horn's WBO title defence have been agreed to.

There is talk that a temporary venue site will be cleared for the fight and it will be set up to accommodate 8,000 people.

Still a few things to be finalised. But the date looks will like it will Friday, December 15th in Brisbane.

Probably a good option for first defense of title. I always thought Bradley Skeet was a pretty dangerous opponent and could derail a rematch with Manny if that's what the plan is. Good luck to him.

I don't think there's anyone doubting their plan is a rematch with Pacquiao. That's where the money and the prestige is regardless of how old Manny is or whether he is shot or not. Hard to blame them taking what looks like a safe fight when the prize could be another fight with Manny. I'm sure they will get some flack for not choosing Skeete. But so what?

Should Horn beat Corcoran his next fight will be against newly named mandatory Terence Crawford.

Last fight Crawford unified at junior welterweight. So he will be walking into a title fight in his first fight at welterweight.

I take my hat off to Jeff as he is always willing to fight the best, but he won’t have the title too long if he defends against Terrence Crawford. Also the likes of Thurman, Spence and even Shaun Porter and Danny Garcia. Full marks to him for beating Manny, but I don’t think Manny was prepared properly and thought he could take Horn out whenever he wanted. Then I thought when he tried in the 9th he punched himself out. Time will tell and it was good to be proven wrong that time. Let’s hope he does it again.

I think Crawford is a fight that makes sense for all involved.

Despite being a top p4per, Crawford isn't the big draw he probably should be. Having a belt will help negotiations for future bouts in the division.

Horn still probably doesn't get the credit he deserves for beating Manny and a bout with Crawford is a chance to silence those critics. Manny did touch him up a bit in the end but Horn had Manny swinging at air quite regularly. Horn will have the size advantage and possibly gets a foot into the American market.

I think Crawford is a heavy favourite and props to Horn if he lands that fight.

Horn gets to choose his next opponent, Corcoran, but after that it was always going to be tough going.

I expect Corcoran will approach this like he has nothing to lose and turn it into one hell of a brawl.

Horn has stated that he's 7 kg's over the limit one week out from the first defence of his title.
Is he serious or just stuffing with Corcoran's head. ?
Seems a sloppy way to prepare for such an important bout.

If he has to lose 7kg in a week he’s in trouble. I was hoping it was 7lb which is possible. I can see him moving to 154 after this fight, but if he loses he benefit of moving up may not be there (he may not have much financial pull)

ATM, it's unclear if 12x3 - Jeff Horn (66.52) V Gary Corcoran (66.47) is in fact title defence albeit publicized as such?
When inserting rest of the weights, title was no longer there, but it is now

Official weights were submitted by Qld's inspector John Hogg, and it's extremely unusual for him not inserting the title.

It all comes down to criteria. As Corcoran is - unbelievably - ranked at #10 by the WBO, he fills the criteria as Horns voluntary defense of his title, which if Horn wins, he'll have 4 months to broker a fight with Terence Crawford, his mandatory.

It was supposed to be a rematch with Pacman, but Pacman opted out.

Jeff Horn could probably jump up to 168 and kick Mundine's ass. Mundine is shot to pieces.

I'm not suprised Pacman didn't want another beating. :box:
