Orlando Salido: Retirement is Over, I'm Coming Back in 2018!
Already in the tranquility of his home in Phoenix, Arizona - the four time world champion in two different weight categories, Orlando "Siri" Salido, has decided not to retire and vows continue in boxing in 2018.
Salido, 37 years old, announced his retirement on Saturday night after suffering a knockout loss in an epic war with Miguel Roman at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
"Saturday night I let my feelings and frustrations make me say things I did not think about. It was a tough and difficult fight in which I could not do the things that I needed to do in the ring, which I attributed to my age and the many wars I've had in my career," said Salido.
"But when I returned home and after thoroughly examining my preparation and the fight, I realized that the weight was also part of the problem last Saturday. I arrived at the camp weighing a lot, the highest of my career and losing weight became the focus of training and preparing me for the fight was secondary."
"I feel like I left the fight on the scale. It is not an excuse but having one fight in 18 months did not help me to stay in condition for what was an extremely strong preparation but in which the weight became the obstacle to overcome. While I was happy with the fight that I offered to the public on Saturday I know that I can still make things better and that's why I'm going to keep my options open in 2018 and if something good comes out at 130 or 135 pounds I would seriously think about going back to fight."
The 37-year-old Mexican fighter culminated - "Sometimes at the end of a fight and in the heat of the moment things are said, but when you take the time to reflect you realize that should not have said them. I want to return to the ring and give my fans more shows and I think I still have something good to offer boxing."

He should have at least stayed retired for 10 days lol

taken too much punishment. retire. have zero interest in a loma rematch now. the younger mexicans, machado, etc, will beat him up to.

Rematch is a waste of time. Nomassiah will get no credit for it and it takes up space in his career. I don’t blame Salido for wanting the paycheck, even if it is only half a mil.

He needs to retire instead of making excuses to convince himself to carry on.
Too many fights. Too many wars.
His tank is nearly empty. He risks being carried out of the ring.

It would be hard for anybody to leave $500k on the table. He was hoping to pick up a title in his last fight so he could posture for a little more, but now I'm sure he'll accept anything to fight Loma again. I don't blame him, but I wish he would stay retired for his health.

At this point, why not? He's never been more popular than he is right now and the weight classes around 130 have never been more exciting. Salido would make a ton of money in 2018 with a couple more fights. What's a little more brain trauma at this point lol

37-year old boxer and a dozen of losses? I don't think he's relevant any more..

Stay retired unless you can get that Loma paycheck! Not other fight worth the punishment!
Re: Orlando Salido: Retirement is Over, I'm Coming Back in 2018!
He's as relevant as he was in 2017, 2016 or 2015.
He was never the best guy in his weight class. He's an action fighter that makes for entertaining fights, and gives a lot of guys a hard time. He's still relevant because he's still that.

I guess that remains to be seen..

I think it'd be interesting to see Salido against Jhonny Gonzalez or someone like that.

Did you watch his last fight? He didn't just lay down and get beaten easily. It took some doing before Roman beat him, and Salido rocked him badly at times. Though he's definitely looking a little shopworn, he's still a tough out for most guys.greg wrote: ↑16 Dec 2017, 11:11I guess that remains to be seen..

..I just believe that at this age you get older overnight and being a tough guy and all that can be detrimental to your health..might be better to stay retired unless you expect to earn a fortune which I don't think is the case..gilgamesh wrote: ↑16 Dec 2017, 11:14Did you watch his last fight? I don't disagree with that. Salido definitely takes a lot of punishment in his fights win or lose, and there's only so much punishment the human body can hold up to.greg wrote: ↑16 Dec 2017, 11:36..I just believe that at this age you get older overnight and being a tough guy and all that can be detrimental to your health..might be better to stay retired unless you expect to earn a fortune which I don't think is the case..

Body can take a lot of punishment. Just watch The Revenant. It's the brain that's vulnerable.gilgamesh wrote: ↑16 Dec 2017, 13:28I don't disagree with that. Salido definitely takes a lot of punishment in his fights win or lose, and there's only so much punishment the human body can hold up to.

The Brain is part of the body. I didn't think I had to specify Brain specifically.klitoris wrote: ↑16 Dec 2017, 14:25Body can take a lot of punishment. Just watch The Revenant. It's the brain that's vulnerable.
