is bjs the uks top boxer

Post by jamamb »

not saying he is (aj for me) the top but can you make a case? this is top stuff. he has speed, reflexes, footwork, and all sorts of nifty skills.can take a shot too.

eubank, lemieux, lee, ryder, spike, etc....outboxed all. has an underrated resume imo.

would stand a good chance vs old slow face blocking golovkin

I think he has the best resumé from top to bottom in Britain. Blown away people from commonwealth level, to European and now World level, taking 0's as he goes. He just needs to beat GGG to be seen as top dog in Britain because he doesn't quite have the Klitschko win like AJ.

He is easily imo. When he's motivated he outshines most.

He needs top opposition all the time. That is when he performs his best.

He's definately top 3 best in UK right now. You have to give him that.

Yes he is but he's so under-rated. Which I don't mind as I've made a killing betting on BJS! Can you believe he was 10/11 against Lemieux and he was 11/10 against Andy Lee. :o

Didn't get a chance to watch this live, so relied on the round by round, but one of those cases where I'm delighted to have been proven wrong.

BJS really does seem to be one of those guys that needs to face top opposition to bring out the best of him, so I really hope he builds on this rather than settling back into routine defences.

Would also have been nice to see him really enforce his dominance by looking for the stoppage in the final third as it would have been great for his profile, but it's still a great win on foreign soil.

Onwards and hopefully upwards!

He's very skilled but, I think too lazy to be called the top boxer.

When he's motivated and on form I think he'd beat anyone in the division. But, when he can't be arsed, gets complacent I can also see him shitting the bed against anyone in the division (Like Degale the other week).

You can't question his resume though. He's got a good bunch of victories on his list.

That's the problem, he needs to stay motivated and now with Ingle and his next purse I think he will. I don't think you'll see another Akavov performance, you can even make a solid argument he lost that fight.

Degale has been a bit of a punching bag for years though, BJ is a much more talented boxer and you get the impression he has that always find a way attitude going.

I still think after tonight that Eubank would beat him.
He is definitely a PPV fighter, give me £20 and I'll watch 12 rounds

I'm hoping he can stay motivated. A top form Billy-Joe would beat GGG.

I actually think he will be motivated against the best of the division. It's if he faces easy, lesser opponents where I can see him being complacent, lazy and trying to coast to a victory.

On that performance yes Saunders is P4P the UK number one (at least with Tyson Fury inactive). He didn't just beat Lemieux he humiliated him.

That's the performance we've been waiting for from Saunders he's always had the talent and at last he's really shown it.

I think he beats Golovkin if he performs like that. It's very much like watching Tyson Fury at peak he just doesn't get hit. Golovkin isn't the quickest neither is Alvarez bring them on.

He built on the momentum of the last fight and falling straight into another camp, Christmas is a worry - back home, time off and lots of food on offer. Hell we all know how tricky Christmas is, cannot walk into Tesco without a couple dozen things tempting you and someone like Billy clearly loves his grub.

Hopefully they line something up quick so he just gets a month off then back to Sheffield

Finally stepped out for me last night. Great performance.

I rated him so highly when he was a kid, but never thought he had fulfilled all that potential. This was his first real, big win imo. Ingle is working wonders for him :TU

Think he’ll need the right type of opponent to look great against. Plodding come forward types with poor footwork, and he’ll look a million dollars.

Jacobs is the next one for BJS, with Canelo and GGG ties up for a while

Lemieux was made for Saunders but let’s get it right, the vast majority of you guys are very knowledgeable and the pole on here called it 50/50. It was a superb performance.

Anyone who dominates another top ten fighter in their natural weight class like that is pretty special.

I think Joshua’s won over VK is the standout win on any current UK fighters resume, however the rest of his opposition have been weak - Takem, Brezeale and Whyte are the only others that carried any threat whatsoever and all are short of championship class even in this era.

Framptons resume is the best, and Selby and DeGales are better than they get credit for. Saunders is very good as well and is in that mix.

IMO the Saunders of last night would stand CEJnr on his head in a rematch - however I don’t rate Jnr tbh

Great display and puts himself right in the picture for a huge payday. Can only tip your hat to him for doing what he did tonight.

He did great and it was good to watch the footwork win the fight. The problem now for fwank is how to match him in an interim fight before the big payday. Maybe give spike a shot?

i reckon ggg and canelo do have a bit of that plodding to them that bjs can thrive against. in particular golovkin has slowish hands (canelo has slow feet but fast hands) and i can see him really struggling to find the mark. if ggg fades any more than he has and bjs takes it as seriously as he did this fight, i think bjs can beat golovkin.

guy like jacobs is much different though, as he doesnt plod and has some of the fastest hands in the division. hes also tallish and probably wont be kept to the outside easily.

BJS best Spike before, and not sure either would want it as would be same result and Spike is building a good presence in the States? Plus they are genuine friends.

Was very impressed by BJS. I think the question [that he answered] was would be be as perfect as against Chris E Junior and Andy Lee, or would the bad lifestyle catch up with him down the stretch.

Last night was the first time in a while he's really blown anyone away to be fair. I thought he'd win a closer fight as weaker opponents than Lemieux had caused him bigger problems, but I was very wrong in that regard.

It's clearly his career best win and I'd say he's probably second to Joshua in UK p4p terms.

Come off it. Saunders beat him once and Eubank threw away the chance of a rematch.
Eubank doesn't fight at that weight anymore. If he chose to get off those extra 8lbs in weight BJS would ruin him.
