It depends what you're into. Is he the biggest draw in the UK? No. Is there another UK fighter that can look as smooth as that in the ring? I can't think of one. Lemieux is no mug, BJS had him looking clueless. You have to be impressed by that.

I've just seen the clip of him stepping away from the right hand and then gazing into space to follow its trajectory - I'm not normally a great fan of showboating but I thought that was brilliant, in part because it just demonstrated his level of confidence against a fighter with world-class power. Not many British fighters have that slickness and swagger!

Indeed, that was gold.

In terms of pure skill and ability, Saunders is the best UK boxer for me, which is why his career has been so frustrating.

Last night had shades of Calzaghe Vs lacy it was so one sided , I think BJS is easily p4p no 1 in Britain , degale got beat frampton too AJ didn't look great Vs takem or Selby in his last fight .

With the likes of Lemieux, Lee and Eubank on his resume its very impressive. I think we will only see Saunders true ability when he faces the either Canelo or Golovkin. I certainly wouldn't rule him out of producing an upset in either of those fights.

I think there is, not just in terms of the Lacy performance but also in the way that BJS can look average against fighters who he doesn't feel threatened by, but is able to raise his game when it matters. Just watched his post-fight interview and was also impressed by his honesty - I've never warmed to his personality but he seemed a lot more humble and self-aware. Ingle's clearly done a cracking job with him... and not just in terms of his fitness.

I would love to see BJS v Canelo in 2018 then Golovkin in 2019. GGG is slightly more dangerous than Canelo at present so him being a year older in 2019 would be great. Imagine if BJS turned them both over. Dominic Ingle would be knighted!!

Also a minor masterclass of how to fight as a southpaw, against a bloke who really can't fight southpaws. This is one where I think the stance was a factor, albeit not as great as pure talent, skill and movement, but Lemieux looked particularly clueless at working the angle out (or not)

I'd like to see him in with Eubank again. It was a very close fight the first time and Eubank would be a different proposition this time around. BJS has also improved it has to be said but it would certainly put the winner very high on the list of UK boxers p4p.

I've not been his biggest fan but he was top notch last night. An absolute master class of boxing and moving. I expected him to win on points but the way he went about it was very impressive. Can't wait till his next fight.

It was a very complete performance but I don't think one should get too carried away as Lemieux's level has been well-established. Can BJS beat GGG? Possibly but I worry that Saunders doesn't have the power to keep him off. Does he beat Alvarez? Not if the judges have any say in the matter.

I'd like to see him maintain this level through a couple more performances before calling him our top boxer...

That's sensible, Lemieux has come up short at the pointy end. He was also flat from the first bell and gave away a lot of height and reach. Great performance from BJS, I have to give him credit, like you say, I just don't think this result propels him into the stratosphere just yet.
I hope he does get another decent fight without the seemingly derigour BJS one year wait.

When it comes to skill and ability he has to be number one at the moment.

His record can't be far off now, either.
It may not have the stand out name like Klitschko on it (yet) but in terms of depth it is hard to beat.

He looked great Saturday, but I will stop short of saying he would best GGG just yet.

One thing GGG does very well is cutting off the ring, BJS will have to work twice as hard as he did Saturday to beat GGG.

I think he beats Canelo though.

Ive not read through this entire thread yet but if we are going to overlook Billys poor performance then surely we should be overlooking De Gales poor performance.

A 100% James De Gale is just slightly easier on the eye than a 100% Billy Joe,for me anyway.

Mixes it up a bit more goes to the body where Billy doesnt, not much between the footwork and movement.Bit more pop on his shots.

This is only going off both guys at their very best.

I think he could win a narrow points decision against GGG, but would lose to Canelo.

I agree. I think Canelo is the best middleweight in the world an would eventually wear Saunders he is a lot better than lem who is very one dimensional. I think although Ggg closes the ring better than lem he is still ideal for Saunders who would frustrate him an dance around him for 12 rounds. If they fight my money's on saunders
