I wasn't bored watching Saunders do a number on Lemieux last night, but I agree with you that the Andy Lee fight sucked ass.Ricky_ wrote: ↑17 Dec 2017, 12:32It's not harsh. Saunders is a total stink-out merchant. His title fight vs Lee is by far the most boring world title fight I've ever seen below Cruiserweight. I appreciate he nullified a dangerous puncher last night but as a spectacle it bored me and the entire venue shitless. Why would an established draw like Canelo or GGG want to chase him round the ring when he brings no audience & revenue to the table? Only up & coming middles will want a crack at bjs for his belt. I doubt I'll watch him fight again.Shambles wrote: ↑17 Dec 2017, 12:14I think that's incredibly harsh on Saunders. He outboxed an albeit limited Lemieux away from home whilst easily outlanding him. Sure, he could have engaged more but overall I was impressed, as were HBO it seems.KiwiRider wrote: ↑17 Dec 2017, 02:17 Thank goodness for the undercard.
Spike! What a great win that was.
And Seldin will have to get better matchmaking in the future, no way can he go up against a stick and mover.
Saunders put on a booxing boo fest. Why he chose to throw so few shots bewilders me, he could have won fans tonight, but instead alienated them.
Neither Canelo or GGG would want to fight him because it would stink the house out.
I think the GGG fight will be made for New York after Golovkin beats Canelo. Even if GGG loses he'll probably go for BJS as I think he'll see it as an easy way back to a title.

It was a good fight. The bull vs the matador. Maybe the later rounds were a bit slow. Bjs could have ramped it up a bit more although his defence was on point. That’s were Golovkin would have success, the relatively low output by Sanders. Lemieux though, can’t stand him or his arrogance. Should be ashamed of himself for the comment prior and post fight.

For me there's a fairly obvious distinction between 'make em miss & make em pay' versus 'make em miss & runaway'.gilgamesh wrote: ↑17 Dec 2017, 19:44I wasn't bored watching Saunders do a number on Lemieux last night, but I agree with you that the Andy Lee fight sucked ass.Ricky_ wrote: ↑17 Dec 2017, 12:32It's not harsh. Saunders did land some counter shots in anger but they were too few and far between. When he had Lemieux shook he showed no interest in switching gears and displaying the agressive conclusion the sweet science should be followed up with. It's also worth mentioning that the gypsy culture BJS & the Fury family are from love referring to themselves as 'fighting men' and the like, yet all 3 of them have the same negative, safety-first approach, unwilling to engage in a proper dustup.

Boxing is "Hit and Don't get Hit" as far as that goes. BJS fought masterfully against Lemieux.

Look at Lemieux's face after the fight, and you will see that BJS wasn't just "running". Lemieux didn't land ANYTHING meaningful, while Saunders landed quite a few hurting power punches.

Exactly, and for all his limitations, David Lemieux is not a man you want to stand and trade punches with and why would you if he had Saunders' skill-set?
I love a good tear up as much as anyone but I do get impatient with those fans that have little appreciation of artistry.

Stick him in with Charlo, if he can win that then I will be impressed. Personally I think he should avoid him at all costs.
Re: Round-by-Round: Billy Joe Saunders vs. David Lemieux - December 16, 2017
To be fair Charlo is a prominent member of the "Who needs him club" (or should that be who needs them? ) so that's good advice for almost any middleweight.

It's definitely silly to expect a guy to take a more dangerous strategic approach just to make the fans happier. That's what some of these fans seem to think they're owed.candyslim wrote: ↑19 Dec 2017, 05:03Exactly, and for all his limitations, David Lemieux is not a man you want to stand and trade punches with and why would you if he had Saunders' skill-set?

Like you much a I love a good tear up, I appreciate the diversity and variation of Boxing a lot as well. If every single fight was an outright slugfest it'd get a little dull. You need some variety in there to keep it interesting, and to provide interesting matchups and different possible outcomes.

Maybe ... I guess you're right but I could watch a hell of a lot of fights like Foreman v Lyle or Hearns v Hagler before there was even the most imperceptibly remote chance of their ever getting old.
