MAXIM VS ROBINSON
Does Joey Maxim get the credit he deserves for his win over Sugar Ray Robinson? You always hear that the heat beat Robinson, and yes, he was ahead on points when he collapsed, but Maxim fought a smart fight and used the extra weight to his advantage by leaning on Robinson whenever he could. He also conserved his energy by staying in the center of the ring and let Robinson expend his energy with his movement. As for the heat, as Maxim quipped afterwards, "There was no air conditioner in my corner."

Maxim
Joey Maxim would be given a lot more credit had he been flashier & a
better hitter. He was a very intelligent fighter with excellent boxing skill.
Losing to a prime Charles or Moore is no black mark on his record. You had to be very good indeed to beat him. No one else can say they beat both Sugar Ray Robinson & Floyd Patterson. No small feat.

Though it must be said that Patterson was robbed...bill.lockhart wrote:Joey Maxim would be given a lot more credit had he been flashier & a
