Any match up between Vitali and an old time fighter has to be seen like this......either the fight takes places in their era so you have to take a couple of inches and about 20lbs off Vitali or in his era so you have to do the same to them and add 2 inches and 20lbs which would equate to a change in the average height, better diets, nutriention and supplements that fighters use to build muscle and stamina, especially someone like Vitali who has openly admitted to using steroids in the past.

Vitali vs Jack Dempsey Dempsey TKO corner stoppage 11th
Vitali vs Joe Louis Louis KO 12
Vitali vs Ali Ali UD
Vitali vs Joe Frazier Vitali KO 10th
Vitali vs George Foreman Foreman KO10th
Vitali vs Mike Tyson Tyson UD
Vitali vs Riddick Bowe Bowe UD
Vitali vs Evander Holyfield Vitali UD
Vitali vs Marciano Marciano UD
Vitali vs Jersey Joe Walcott Vitali TKO 10th
Vitali vs Sonny Liston Liston TKO corner stoppage 10th

Yes that's a good way of putting it. Someone like Ali would have definitely weighed around 225.235 in his prime,, he was a naturally big man, but didn't have the advances in diet, nutrition and training regimens that fighters have today. It was really still the steak and eggs methodology back in his day.

The weight difference between Klitschko & Dempsey is similar to that between Dempsey & Willie Pep.

People are really predicting Vitali to get KO'd? The same Vitali who took THAT uppercut from Lennox? Yeah right, you could argue points stoppage or TKO via cuts like Lewis did but no chance does anyone KO him.

People view past boxers with rose tinted glasses I think. Then there's the size difference, Vitali would dominate most of the past heavies because of the sheer difference in size and strength. Marciano, Dempsey, Louis would all get splattered. There's a reason weight divisions exist in boxing. It would be a light-heavy going up against a heavyweight.

Athletes get bigger, stronger, sturdier, fitter and better with every generation. It's why world records get broken in every sport.

Mostly agree, but I don't think he would have beaten Ali or Foreman.

Does breaking world records in track events equate to improvements in fighting ability? If boxing skill has improved so much how the hell did Bernard Hopkins complete at world level into his 50,'s! How did Foreman compete 20 years past his prime when some people on this forum have called him crude? Being fit and strong does not equate to boxing skill.

For all the developments in sports science, the fundamentals of boxing have hardly changed post war.

Any fighter prepared for 15 rounds in far more esteemed eras than Vitali's would surely best him.

Lewis beat him up, Sanders hurt him, and Byrd outlasted him. He couldn't even shift Chisora.

How anyone has him beating Tyson us beyond me.

I think he'd probably beat the sub 200Ib guys purely with size, and lose against the rest.

He wasn't anything that special.

I'd say GGG has earned his hype way more. The only time Vitali took on the best in the division was when he lost to a past it, out of shape Lewis. Vitali was 31 too, no youngster.
He couldn't stop a past it, badly injured Shannon Briggs.

A good point, sir! Although it should be noted that the weight difference between Klitschko & Dempsey is also the same as Dempsey & Jess Willard (though Willard had considerably longer reach than Vitali); that one ended with Willard's jaw broken in two places, his rib cage smashed, four teeth missing and his nose splayed across his face!

Most of the predictions here have Danny Williams, Derek Chisora, Chris Arreola and Shannon Briggs fairing better than Dempsey, Muhammad Ali, Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson and Sonny Liston. I didn't realise the recent era had been such a golden age. Merry Christmas to us!

He's bigger and stonger as all of them, doesn't smoke, got less fat, what do you expect?
And on top of that at least as fast. Tyson and Ali usually didn't even fight real heavyweights.

Muhammad Ali only fought 2 guys in his entire carreer that were above 225 pounds and 24 of his opponents were below 200 pounds. That's compareble to AJ fighting Oleksandr Usyk, who is ofcourse an awesome fighter, but just in a different league.

Most of the names just can not be compared. They are too archaic for the modern boxing. In their times there were different sizes, different styles of fighting, just different boxing in general.
