THE SUPER SIX VOTE *Thread Closed*

Post by Crease »

Image

THE SUPER SIX begins in Week 35.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
It will be decided by a vote system. The system is really very simple;
All of the current active Managers will have five votes each.
They will be voting on who they believe to be THE BEST five boxers over the course of this season.

WHY ONLY 5 IF THIS IS A SUPER "SIX"?
Because Mr Harry Greb won The Million Dollar Tournament.
Our Millionaire Champion, under the tutelage of Mr Gilgamesh has already qualified by virtue of his big win.

CAN I VOTE FOR MY OWN FIGHTERS?
Yes, you can vote for anyone on the current active fighters list...
However Managers are not stupid - it will be clearly transparent that you are being biased toward your own guys.

WHEN DOES THE VOTE BEGIN?
The vote begins after the conclusion of Week 34's contest and the results are in...
So no-one can vote yet.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE TO MENTION?
Yes, those unlucky battlers who don't make the top table, often are put into a secondary series called The Silver Six.
It will probably be used again this season, because Managers seem to have taken a great liking to it.

WHEN DOES VOTING FINISH?
When all eight of the Managers have made their five selections.
OR, it will commence on Friday 30th December.

3 fighters definitely have my vote as of this moment.

The 2 Sugar Ray's. Leonard and Robinson, and Mickey Walker who currently sits at #1, and of course sitting at the #1 position does not come easily.

Feel like Ketchel battled towards contention for #6 these past 10-15 weeks after an otherwise patchy season. Whether or he makes it (against Hagler, Fitzsimmons or Ryan? The three Gil mentioned plus Monzon feel like shoo-ins to me for slots 2-5) I don't know but I'll do my part and update his records later today.

Okay, here are 2 of my selections... (These are the easy ones to my mind)

Sugar Ray Robinson
The man is just a guarantee. And no doubt in my mind he's one of the best six fighters out there.

Sugar Ray Leonard
Despite having the weight disadvantage, he has coped very well with our batch of Middleweight competitors. A top six man in my mind.

Okay, now for another pick of mine:

Carlos Monzon
Yes, he's my no 1 guy - but his record has been fantastic.

He is a four-time World Champion - and is still the current WBC Champ
Is a former Lonsdale Belt holder.

Has scored regular wins over good fighters (maybe Silver six guys?) - Burley, Moore, Steele, Ketchel, Langford, Hearns - he's also beat our current CPU Champ, RJJ and defeated Marvin Hagler last week.

As for his defeats? He's only lost 6 fights all year - see for yourself:
Week 06: vs Harry Greb L SD
Week 10: vs Sugar Ray Robinson L SD
Week 12: vs Marvin Hagler L SD
Week 19: vs Roberto Duran L SD
Week 25: vs Archie Moore L SD
Week 31: vs Ezzard Charles L SD

and EVERY SINGLE loss was close... He has never been stopped!!!

Personally, I think Monzon gets in - he's a top 6 guy!

Okay, my next vote is for

Marvin Hagler
This season Marvin has been very successful even with a bad period of inactivity and gross mismanagement.

Before joining my stable, he was a World Champ back in Week 8 when he won the IBF.
And before his lengthy absence,
He was The Number One ranked Middleweight ten weeks over the first 15 weeks in which it was recorded.

And since joining my stable, he is a
TWO Champ World Champion - beating two Number One ranked Middleweights to win those Championships.

Harry Greb was ranked number one in week 28 - Hagler beat him in week 29.
SRR was ranked number one in week week 31 - Hagler beat him in week 32.

Then, he fought the joint-longest number one ranked Light Middleweight, Tom,my Hearns and beat him last week.
This is a true mark of distinction.

Hagler has proven that he can beat THE BEST - Greb and SRR are guarantees for The Super Six -
and Hagler deserves his place in there with them.

Also, are we really saying that Marvin Hagler is going to miss out in the grand finale?
Any boxing man worth his salt knows that Hagler belongs in with the greatest Middleweights of all time.

I am currently weighing up the accomplishments of 4 fighters... It's a tough call.
But we've got time, I'm going to mull this over for a while.

I still got 2 more votes.

For 1 of 'em, you can mark me down as another vote for Carlos Monzon.

I'm gonna have to give some thought for who deserves my 5th and final vote.

Both Sugars, Robinson & Leonard

Monzon

Greb is already in

Walker

6th and final guy I'm going to have to think about. Do you look at current rating? Do you look at activity and being managed by the same team all the way? Championships won? The last pick will be varied a lot person to person.

OK, my official vote:

Sugar Ray Leonard
Sugar Ray Robinson
Carlos Monzon... are three obvious ones.

My next vote goes to my boy Stanley Ketchel. He had an up and down season but was matched tough throughout and has wins against Greb, Robinson, Leonard, Ryan and Moore (as well as Duran, Dempsey x3, Golovkin, PJ O'Brien etc etc). Also has draws against Robinson again and Fitzsimmons. I have always valued getting big wins above being consistent at a lower level, so I'm not just being biased, though there's probably an element of that.

Finally, though he has missed chunks of the season, neither Walker not Fitzsimmons have done quite enough to surpass Marvin Hagler who is my fifth and final pick.

After some reflection I've decided who will get my 5th and final vote

It was a toss up to me between a few names, but it mainly came down to Tommy Hearns and Charley Burley. Tommy won the WBA Title from a big name in Harry Greb, but it was by DQ.

Charley Burley on the other hand has been a 3x World Champion, and during one of those reigns he successfully defended the title 3 times in a row allowing for unification.

While Stanley Ketchel, Fitzsimmons and Marvin Hagler have been tough customers...Hagler's having been multi-managed works against him here.

The names I mentioned here are shoo-ins for my vote in the Silver 6 should that come into play, but my 5th and final vote goes to Charley Burley

Didn't anticipate there'd be consideration for Burley for the Super Six. I've got the rest of his record written on paper; I'll add it to my Fighters Records post when I get back in a few hours.

You're all lost in "Objective wonderland" where only the measurables appear to be important.

The real important items are not something you can quantify.....it's the mystical, and transcendental aspects.

The subjectives, and outliers. The "spirit, essence, and soul".

So...clearly the top 5 are as follows.

1. GGG.....why? Because the great and powerful Special K says so. AND the writers of his software were not aware of his ever increasing abilities when they wrote his code. So....he was hamstrung, and yet thrived rather well despite the digital hobbling.

2. Bernard Hopkins......once rated as low 4,762 here in the sim...rose to the very top and held the linear title for over a week in one instance. That's star power my friends.

3. Floyd Mayweather because he's Floyd. Nuff said.

4. Harry Greb. Because he's already in, and he deserves respect, and will likely only receive one vote....and we want to be the one's to cast it.

5. I will hold my 5th vote.....to see how things are going.......if there needs to be a good subjective opinion to turn the tide between two competing camps.....you can count on GBP to step in and confound and confuse with expert clarity.

I'd go Ketchel or Fitzsimmons on my final vote. I guess whoever it helps get in, gets my vote. Ketchel for the season has been better overall. Fitz has the current ranking and the belts to get in.
