I think the Bellew win, I expected Bellew to be the better boxer against Daffy, but also expected that the refs would give Daffy another undeserved win anyway. In reality Daffy didn't even make it to the end, even his legs were injured and he couldn't run away scared any more. Bellew clearly had mercy with him, despite Daffy his big mouth and didn't even threw punches any more at the end. It was no wonder Daffy thanked him a lot right after the fight.

Excellent OP. I like it. Tough call between the candidates but I had to go with Kovalev. Even though conspiracy theorists refuse to acknowledge what actually happened in this fight, the intelligent fan saw a great boxer make a fantastic boxer quit. As a Kovalev fan, I believe that loss is going to end up being his most important fight because he learned a valuable lesson. Everyone needs a good humbling eventually except Floyd. Dammit.

Definitely Ward v Kovalev 2.
Ward humbled Kovalev, even if he & some folk refuse to admit it.
Sergey should learn a lot from his 2 bouts with Ward.

Ward vs. Kovalev II
Re: Most Humbling Loss Of 2017
Gonzales vs Rungvisai. That was a devasting KO.
Re: Most Humbling Loss Of 2017
Making someone quit on their stool has to be the worst.

Re: Most Humbling Loss Of 2017
I just don’t see how Kovalev losing to an elite P4P guy like Ward can be anywhere as close to humbling as DeGale losing to someone who is nowhere near the top SMWs.
Re: Most Humbling Loss Of 2017
Ward-Kovalev does have this over Loma-Rigo: it happened in the loser's own division. Imagine how much more striking if Loma had made Rigo quit in Rigo's division, or even through meeting him in the middle in the 'neutral' weight class between them.

In addition to the fight being razor thin again before Ward went full retard on his balls.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑24 Dec 2017, 13:37 I just don’t see how Kovalev losing to an elite P4P guy like Ward can be anywhere as close to humbling as DeGale losing to someone who is nowhere near the top SMWs.
However much people want to spin this weird narrative of 'LOLZ LOOK HOW WARD SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT BY MAKING HIM QUIT' both of those results are tainted, and the second fight doesn't come close to a 'humbling loss'
Maybe folks just don't understand what the word means though, so I'll give the benefit of the doubt.

Easily the growling, snarling Krusher getting humiliatingly tamed by a feather fisted (but yes, Oh so talented) slapper like Ward.
Kovalev (and his disbelieving loyalists) are reduced to nothing more than a litany of excuses, unable to fathom how a bad ass like the Russian can be pounded and stopped by Ward.
It's simple. Kovalev isn't really the tough guy he's made out to be.
And Ward happens to be one of the most talented, and underappreciated fighters of this generation.

Gamboa - Sosa should be on the poll. Possibly Charr - Ustinov. Truax - Degale and Ward - Kovalev are valid options, though. Ward - Kovalev is a pretty good option, because it was a reality check not just for Kovalev, but his huge fan base as well.
Re: Most Humbling Loss Of 2017
..Ward - Kovalev falls more into the category of most embarassing win of 2017..

Re: Most Humbling Loss Of 2017
McGregor should have been the most humbling, he got bashed around the ring by a 40 year old a weight dividion lower, but it hasn't made him any humbler. Half the list is just as deluded. Haye still thinks he's going to comeback and be a world champion, deluded. Lemieux was just pathetic after his loss, not seen Degale after the loss, so maybe that, hope he comes back. Rigo lost to a top P4P fighter a weight division higher, no shame in that. Not seen Broner after but he's had bad losses before. Didn't follow Charlo. Kovalev was pathetic, just made excuses and claimed he could still win.
Rungvisai vs Gonzalez is up there too.

Re: Most Humbling Loss Of 2017
dude returned quick, only had one fight since the loss, and made multiple confirmed offers to consensus top 10 barrera that got turned down. i mean he got broken down by atg ward but lets not act like his route since has really been that bad and that prolonged bad. plus win or lose its pretty normal for some easier fights after back to backs with a p4p top.boxing fans are unfair and negative as shi!t after lossess! even if they think there just balancing things out. in fact those ones are often the worse. just creates more of a stupid clusterfuck of opinion.
Re: Most Humbling Loss Of 2017
SOGgy to Shabransky to who? Pretty humbling, imo. I still have Krushedner in my top five or six p4p, btw.jamamb wrote: ↑25 Dec 2017, 10:27dude returned quick, only had one fight since the loss, and made multiple confirmed offers to consensus top 10 barrera that got turned down. i mean he got broken down by atg ward but lets not act like his route since has really been that bad and that prolonged bad. plus win or lose its pretty normal for some easier fights after back to backs with a p4p top.boxing fans are unfair and negative as shi!t after lossess! even if they think there just balancing things out. in fact those ones are often the worse. just creates more of a stupid clusterfuck of opinion.
I am not negative at all about Krushedner. I have said before that I hope that he comes back stronger than before.
Krushedner fans are shameless, though.
Re: Most Humbling Loss Of 2017
DeGale v Truax without a doubt. Domestically it has to be O'Hara Davies getting absolutely destroyed and forced to quit against Josh Taylor. I could watch that fight over and over. Definitely my most enjoyable fight of the year.
Re: Most Humbling Loss Of 2017
kovs side offered to barrera for both the shab and mikhalkin dates and other guys are sorting out titles or with haymon. its really not so bad at all when u look into it. and its par for the course to fight some easier opponents after tough opponents, regardless of result. getting after kov already like hes on some prlonged botm tours just lol
Re: Most Humbling Loss Of 2017
good one. even davies admitted he was embarassed losing like that
Re: Most Humbling Loss Of 2017
For the record; DeGale was far more humbled by Truax than Krushedner was by SOGgy. Krushedner’s fans ran away with the BFOTY (Butthurt Fans Of The Year) award.jamamb wrote: ↑25 Dec 2017, 11:10 kovs side offered to barrera for both the shab and mikhalkin dates and other guys are sorting out titles or with haymon. its really not so bad at all when u look into it. and its par for the course to fight some easier opponents after tough opponents, regardless of result. getting after kov already like hes on some prlonged botm tours just lol
Re: Most Humbling Loss Of 2017
ya there was certainly a lot of soreness around the ol hole
Re: Most Humbling Loss Of 2017
Ward Kovalev 2 was frustrating to watch, I had Ward winning at the point he hurt Kovalev with the head shot and felt he could have gone on to win a very big victory from that point.
However, he chose to hammer in a series of low blows and finish it in a very dirty and inconclusive fashion.
Which is a real shame, as he could have retired as the clear p4p number one.

Shiming Vs Kimura?
Shiming went into the bout thinking he could do all the promotional work, ditched Bob Arum, picked the unknown Kimura (who even the likes of harccore Japanese fight followers hadn't sene much of), and was supposed to win to set up a bout with Ioka. Instead he loses, potentially ends up blind in one eye and looks set to be sued by SECA for breach of contract...
OUCH!
