your fighter of the year

Post by jamamb »

lots of good years but no one really stands out. a number of feasible choces. my top 7 in no order

sor
aj
garcia
crawford
melindo should he win on dec 31st
ryan burnett
loma

personally ill prob go wth melindo should he win. that would be 3x top 10 fghters (2 champs plus a recent champ). i would prob have loma near the bottom of the list just because there are so many holes wth hs opposton even though hes worthy as a foty contender.

honesltly no problems for me wth a number of these guys gettng it. very open for 2017. i do rate activity so a 1 fight guy such as ward isnt an option for me.

Sor Rungvisai and AJ are my top 2 choices so far.

I agree with you that Melindo with a win over Taguchi on the 31st has a very strong case.

I am going to with Lomachenko, three fights and three wins but beating Rigondeaux as impressively as he did takes it for me. It is a weird year though for fighter of the year majority of the contenders have only fought twice.

How on earth can AJ be considered fighter of the year?

Going life and death with a guy Fury completely humiliated almost 2 years before in his own country, and then getting a corrupt stoppage over a mediocre 2 week replacement to keep his fake KO record going?

I don't get that. Fight of the year maybe, not fighter of the year.

For me Loma, Crawford and Srisaket are the most worthy boxers to be nominated.

Fury didn't 'completely humiliate' Wlad to be fair. Wlad was favourite to win the fight after the final bell.

Funny how people see fights .

Humiliated ? Wlad was just the worst of the two on the night and that was only just in one of the worst heavyweight title fights in living memory .

He completely and utterly humiliated him by landing an extra 2.8 punches per round.

Yeah but 90,000 people, I mean 90,000 people and when it was over and joshua had gotten his victory you could have heard that roar in Scatlin. I mean it was incredible.

wlad was old but he fought well and imo was easly top 5 on that form even at 41. carlos was a respected contender

so two solid opponents plus a memorable battle and frontrunner for fight of the year. at least worth a nomination given the rest of the field.

Being a boxer of his stature and getting rendered completely useless in your own backyard is pretty humiliating.

Again, he wasn't really 'rendered completely useless.' It was just a bad fight.

Fury won a close fight by landing very few punches but still a few more than Wlad. That's what happened. To repeat, so few punches were thrown that after the final bell Wlad was favourite to win the fight. That doesn't happen in embarrassingly one-sided humiliations.

Wasn't close, Fury did it easy and made him look like a novice.

Just look at the reaction after the fight. People were speculating on why he performed the way he did, from throwing the fight to his mental health issues brought on by his wife's mental state at the time.

Fighter of the year- Loma
3 fights and all of them outclassing his opponent.
Fight of the year- AJ Vs Wlad. No other fight had me on the edge of my seat all the way
Prospect of the year- Josh Taylor.
Proved twice he is the real deal and so early in his pro career.

Rungvisai.

If Melindo wins well on NYE then he should be mentioned as well.

GGG for me. Beating Jacobs ( even if some thought he lost) and then to be very unlucky in not getting the decision against Alvarez puts him as being the best this year
