Is Saunders better than Lara ?

Post by boxing_rocks »

So, both are slick southpaws with great movement, but Saunders also tries to hurt his opponents. Who is better?

Note: THIS IS NOT A QUESTION ABOUT RESUMES.

Why would I ask? Because in shape, motivated Saunders displayed level of skills I haven't seen in him before. Not only he humiliated Lemieux using outstanding movement, but he was also hurting David multiple times throwing combinations. If Lemieux didn't have an iron chin, he would have definitely been stopped.

Both southpaws called out GGG, so it would be logical to ask who is a bigger threat. Personally, I think that Saunders has better power and willingness to take some risk in order to hurt his opponent. If Lara wasn't overly cautious against Canelo and threw a little more or some harder punches, it would be harder for judges to rob him.

... and by the way, poll results disagree with you, even though they are undecisive.

The poll results would suggest that is not an unreasonable question. Whose better I mean not are you on crack I guess I ought to make that clear. :D

I didn't vote because I've not seen enough of Lara to feel qualified to give a considered opinion.

Can you elaborate on what exactly he is significantly better at?

Lara quite a bit better, I think canelo ko's Saunders, and Lara was robbed vs canelo. Long and short of it is Lara would prob out point Saunders in a fight that wouldn't be worth watching so probably wouldn't get made.

How would Canelo KO Saunders? Canelo's footwork sucks, so he would have a very hard time landing.

I think the same way as against Lara, Canelo would manage to land a few body shots hitting mainly elbows and get an undeserved decision. The difference is that Saunders would land harder shots on Canelo than Lara did.

Certainly credit him with funnier in-fight taunts than I've ever seen from Lara.

I think canelo ko's Saunders comfortably, Saunders has nowhere near enough power to keep canelo off, the relentless body shots canelo can throw would put a stop to Saunders running around the ring, and from there on he'd get broken down and eventually stopped.

Canelo wouldn't land any significant body shots like he failed to do that against Lara. BJS definitely has more power than Lara, enough to shake Canelo at times.

Hmm, then he consistently fails to demonstrate that.

Lara got dropped multiple times and went life and death with Alfredo Angulo. Saunders is clearly better.

BJS has had one definitive fight, Lara has had 1/2 dozen.
See? I didn't mention resumes
If BJS can pull off another couple of wins like the last one at the B+ level and up, then the poll makes sense. For now I abstain.

Only a year ago, I thought Artur Akavov would stand just as good a chance against Canelo or GGG, since BJS struggled badly with him. Now some talk like he deserves a top 10 pfp rating?

Lara isn't the only one that has an occasional poor performance. Just saying...
