I really enjoyed Dead Mans Shoes. Good film.

Re: Ex boxers current jobs
He was a good looking lad who was in the tabloids a fair amount. They wanted a quick, easy, defense after the Sherry nonsense & before the Watson fight.

I agree, if Stretch was a run of the mill 'looking' boxer he wouldnt have got where he is i doubt. As a younger man he was quite pretty, my wife liked him with his combed back hair. And as a middle aged bloke he has the appeal to be a bad guy actor, but his acting is so poor he can only land z movies like Sharknado. It is possibly his best acting movie was Dead Mans Shoes, but thats the only one ive seen in full so I cant say it was for sure.
IMDB movie ratings have his movies rated quite poorly also.

Re: Ex boxers current jobs
I think people are forgetting a few facts about Stretch when saying he would never had got so far without his looks.
Number 1: Even though Gary kod amateur star George Collins in 1 round in Collins’ last fight before going pro, it was Collins who received all the publicity and hype.
Number 2: Stretch was not high profile before the Eubank fight. He hadn’t fought at middleweight as I remember. When he was matched with Eubank, the press pushed his looks, and the fight got loads of publicity including I think Wogan?!? (Not sure)
Number 3: Stretch was no bum - apart from a cuts loss he had not been beaten and was ambitious. A lot better than many of Eubank’s defences. (He did however get stopped in a round by David Hunt...)
Number 4: Gary was leading on points at the time of the stoppage and was boxing well.
Number 5: Stretch used to fluck an ageing Raquel Welch.

I think that pretty much proves the point. If he hadn't have been a boxer/model he wouldn't have been on Wogan or all the other attention.boxingknockout wrote: ↑29 Dec 2017, 19:11Number 2: Stretch was not high profile before the Eubank fight. No one is saying he was crap, just pointing out that he was a British title level fighter at Light Middle. He got the shot at Eubank because of the marketing aspect. If he had looked like Ricky Hatton I doubt very much if he would have fought for the Middleweight title. He'd had one fight in the previous 14 months & that was against an Argie who'd won 36 of his 99 fights.
As for Raquel Welch, he says it wasn't true.

Some good points here. However I take issue with the bolded text. Hatton is considered quite a looker in his part of Manchester..... Anthony Farnell is considered something of a supermodel also.Taansend wrote: ↑29 Dec 2017, 20:03I think that pretty much proves the point.
