He must be about 400 years old by now.

I saw him at a Duke McKenzie fight the day after he lost the rubber match to Harding. He looked as fresh as a daisy.

Yeah, he pops up at ex-boxers' meets in London and looks exactly the same as he did when he was fighting.

I watched Dennis take on Basingstoke's Karl Canwell at the Lyceum Ballroom in the Strand way back in 1983. The vivacious Diana Dors had pride of place in the place, seated in a box overlooking the ring, accompanied by her husband Alan Lake and the comedian Russ Abbott. Canwell was a real hard man who had stopped Tom Collins and former world title challenger Harold Skog but Dennis blew him out like a candle. "I fought like a plonker tonight," said Karl on the ring microphone, as if trying to explain why it had looked so easy for Andries. He had one more fight before retiring. Diana Dors died just a year later of cancer, and a few days after that her husband killed himself.

Diana Dors. There's a blast from the past.

And talking of Harding, about a decade ago forums were saying he was a bit of a drunk?

Anyone know if he pulled through?

I knew Harding was tough but just thought that Collins would be able to outpunch him.

Tom wasn't in the mood. He once lost in 36 seconds to Andy Straughn, staying down after a fairly innocuous right hand. In the mood, he was lethal.

The difference between champions & contenders, I suppose. The will to win no matter what.

Tom's greatest win, a stunning second-round knockout of Alex Blanchard for the European title, was never shown because of advertising on Blanchard's shorts. Collins had previously lost to Blanchard.
