The weirdest thing ever (well, almost) was going on a stag to Liverpool and seeing Earnie Shavers. It was late 90s, before I had the internet and I hadn't heard anything at all about him since the early 80s.

Then to see him on the door was bizarre. Thousands of miles from his home. I said to one of my mates who liked his boxing, "I know I'm pissed bit that is Shavers"
I ended up going up to him and asking him. He was a real gent amd we had a decent chat. He was living out in Cheshire.
I met him again about 3 years ago and was very sad to see he had deteriorated a fair bit.
I think he's back in the USA now.

On other retired pros......Francis Ampofo is a chicken farmer out Norfolk way. I bet there aren't many chicken farming ex pro champs.

Howard Daley is a motivational self help guru

Scott Lansdowne a hypnotist

Hari Miles is a care worker.

Can't think of too many other weird post boxing jobs.

Not sure his capacity is however.
He’s a Corporate Fundraising & Events Manager apparently.

Was Shavers an actual doorman in the usual sense or was he a guy who meets and greets?

Proper doorman. He was in the quieter of the 2 Yates's in Liverpool City centre.
Im guessing he must have been about 50.

Bet a few people regretted it if they picked on him then.

Martin Rogan works for Value Cabs in Belfast. He loves it when people recognize him and he's always telling people that he's going to make a comeback.

Darren Corbett has been on the brew for years.
He also does the door in The Shamrock Cub in Ardoyne... And he's not a very doorman by all accounts...

Brian Magee has his own gym up in West Belfast. And he's recently been brought in to do a lot of strength and fitness work with the Antrim GAA football team. He does get paid for that.

He also goes down to the University of Ulster Sports department and helps out the young sporties in there. Don't think he gets paid for that.

Some good points here. However I take issue with the bolded text. Hatton is considered quite a looker in his part of Manchester..... Anthony Farnell is considered something of a supermodel also.

I saw Martin Rogan in a short film. It was about gangsters in Belfast and wasn't too bad really.

I heard he had some jail time for domestic stuff but heard nothing since.
Also, I know he wasn't from Northern Ireland but ehat happened to Coleman Barrett?

Coleman Barrett never did become HW champion of the world. I wrote an article years back reviewing that Prizefighter he was in and I was quite complimentary about him having some talent but I thought he was too small for HW and could make a real impact down at Cruiser. I got so much abuse coming back at me from loads of people claiming to be friends of his, telling me I knew nothing about boxing and that Coleman would be HW world champion one day...

Whilst not job related, did anyone see David Walker had taken an overdose over Xmas?

His ex had refused him any time with his children. It was pretty sad to read... I hope he gets his life on track.

Not a very good bouncer I meant. Corbie has been known to KO a few of the local younguns when theyve give him a bit of lip.

The Shamrock is at the bottom of Ardoyne Avenue..
