Wilder has underrated boxing skills. He does get sloppy when he's going for the finish, but his boxing skills are underrated around these parts. I'd say he's atleast on Par with Ortiz skill wise. What will make this fight probably one sided is the gap in athleticism. Wilder is leaps and bounds more athletic than Ortiz and is much faster of hand and foot.

I could see Wilder taking a strictly stick and move approach and winning all 12 rounds. In fact I'm pretty certain Wilder will do exactly that.

wilder can box indeed. though hes given up rounds to guys like szpilka and washington so i could see him losing a couple. but if he doesnt ko ortiz he will still win clearly on points. maybe like 117-109. and then ppl would say he couldnt stop an old man after years of hyping ortiz to beat him.

it would sting at the heart to give wilder credit and admit that hes good and that his resume is one of the divisons very best.

Unless Ortiz gets old overnight.... and he'll be 39 with high blood pressure... 40 is middle-aged

I expect him to outbox Wilder and knock him out... He's got to get his ass in shape and go for it.

If Ortiz can land one on the button it's goodnight wilder, that's a dead cert, and pretty much the same thing goes for Ortiz, those wild swings and poor defence could spell danger for wilder as I think though Ortiz not the quickest, he certainly has the power and accuracy to put wilder to sleep. All that being said I'll give wilder kudos for fighting Ortiz even if it's a couple years late.

Laughable to think that some guys here feel that the big slow Cuban is going to demolish The Bronze Bomber.

Wilder is one if the most athletic heavyweights in memory. Ortiz is just a guy who can punch a bit, but falls short in the skill category.

And that's way short in comparison to Wilder.

It should be a very one sided fight. The speed difference is staggering. Wilder can move. Ortiz plods.

If Wilder fought more often I'd consider the Cuban just another Bum of the Month.

And don't use the tired "But Ortiz was old" excuse after Wilder toys with him.

He wasn't too old when he was going unbeaten in 30 fights, was he?

But the genetically superior Wilder will make the Real Mickey Mouse look like a shuffling geriatric.

Wilder certainly has an advantage in speed and athleticism, but if you think him more skillful than Luis Ortiz I would seriously question your judgement. Ortiz will be at least 39 and this chance may have come too late, but Ortiz has encountered all types of styles in his extensive amateur and pro career, and if anyone can find how best to exploit Wilder's unorthodoxy and technical deficiencies, that man would be Ortiz.

I hope the fight goes ahead because win or lose, I think that senor might teach this senor a little respect.

athletic in boxing: the guy who most seems like an nba player

but wilder is faster than ortiz of hand and foot. he can leap in with sudden quick attacks in a way ortiz cant.

Ringtv.com reports today that an agreement is firmly in place for Wilder and Ortiz to fight March 3 at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.

Ortiz will still be 38 on that date so none of you can say that Wilder waited until Mickey Mouse got older before the champ knocked him on his ample arse.

Only just. He turns 39 on the 29th of March and some say 40 or even 41. But we will stick with 39.
Also, he had the chance to fight Ortiz 4 years ago and every year since... Your statement holds less water than a colander.

Wilder was not able to fight Ortiz when he was Golden Boy outside of an ordered mandatory. He was given Wilder within months of signing with Haymon.

I'm curious, if Wilder fought and KO'd a 41yr old Wlad after the pathetic performance he had with Fury, and had been out of the ring for a year and a half......how much credit would Wilder have gotten?

Some say. Some say. Some say.

Do these "some say" people have a personal copy of Ortiz' birth certificate?

Were they there when he was expelled from his mother's womb?

Do they know anything?

The "some say" people will say whatever's necessary to fit their own agenda and cover their rears is case things don't go the way they want.

Ortiz is young enough to go unbeaten but nevertheless he'll suddenly become an old, over the hill relic should Wilder easily send him on a raft back to Cuba.

Sounds like the usual oh-so predictable excuse driven BS.

But if you need to hide behind a flimsy cover to save face for being so wrong, then go right ahead.

At any age Wilder is light years ahead of Ortiz in natural talent, speed, and power.

Perhaps the most athletic heavyweight champion in generations.

He's simply better than Ortiz. Always was. Always will be.

And I don't need to listen to what "some say" to know that.

He would have received ZERO credit BH, because around here Wilder is nervously dismissed as a pretender, who seriously threatens Joshua's reign as god.

Of course Joshua's legions of groupies will never admit to that.

Instead they deride Wilder's resume while insisting that a 40-year-old, shopworn Klitschko was still an unstoppable force and that a guy like Takam is borderline ATG.

It's what they do to minimize DW and instead build up Joshua, so that they can allay fears that Joshua will eventually join that long, historical line of horizontal British heavyweights

If Wilder had fought Wlad and won, he would be the #1 HW in the world with Fury out, same as AJ.
The glaring fact is he didn't, and hasn't fought anyone of note ever. He had the chance to fight Wlad years ago when he won the belt. Never even tried to fight Wlad. So you can't give him any credit for unification or facing big quality opponents. AJ got the kudos for doing it in only his 19th fight. Wilder is pushing 40 fights...

According to Wilder he did try, and Wlad told him no. I've never heard Wlad deny it, and not sure why Wilder would make it up.

Wlad called him out the day after Wilder won the belt. Offered more than Wilder has earned so far for one fight.
