Your favorite fighter and fight of the year.

Post by Tanzio »

No poll. Tell us who your favorite fighter was for 2017, and why. Do the same for your favorite fight.

:box:

I do realize there are still fights to happen.

My favorite fighter of this year is Loma, because he had beautiful and masterful performances. None of them was competitive, yet each of them was entertaining.

And my favorite fight of the year is Klitschko-Joshua. The result was disappointing for me actually. Still it was exciting and intense showdown. On the other hand, I'm glad for Wladimir, because he was able to regain some of the conditions after the loss and the hiatus, what allowed him to make that night pretty tough for the young champ. All in all, that fight had both action and drama, it was great pleasure to watch it.

My favorites:
Lomachenko - fought 3 times, outclasses oponents and display brilliant boxing skills
Crawford - achieves undisputed champion
Golovkin - fought against top, dangerous oponents in very close and entertaining fights

I like Canelo a lot, especially his boxing style, but i can´t give him "favorite fighter of year" because of De la hoya shady practics :(

Fight of the year : Golovkin - Alvarez :box: :box: :box:

Joshua-Wlad was fight of the year, followed closely by GGG-Canelo. I actually thought the draw was fair. By body language it looked like GGG deserved the nod because Canelo was fighting off the ropes a lot .

Crawford and Lomachenko are first class in any era.

Keith Thurman is my favourite fighter. Although Joshua v Klitschko is the fight of the year. Followed by Spence v Brook.

I was impressed with Thurman's showing against Garcia. The first six rounds were as dominant as you'll see, without someone hitting the canvas. Although the last two rounds of that fight were disappointing.

Joshua v Wilder
Thurman v Spence

Will be future fights of the year.

Of 2017 there were several great fights. Spence dismantling Brook, Ward stopping Kovalev stick out in my mind as huge wins. Kovalev would have been hands down the pfp champ if he won. Ward gets little credit for beating him twice.

Favorite fighter? Have to between the two above mentioned and Crawford. 1st guy in 15 (FIFTEEN) YEARS to be an undisputed champion. Much bigger feat than winning any single abc belt, or more than one belt. GGG is the close second to do this recently. GGG beat Canelo, and will do so again.

Big props to Thurman as well, taking on Porter and Garcia....even though he is probably the 3rd best welter currently imo.

AJ stopping Wlad remains to be a huge win by UK fans, but like I have said multiple times before, Wlad looked done, finished, in the worst heavyweight championship fight by either guy[/b] in the history of boxing. A 27 yr old beat a 41 yr old that looked totally shot in the fight previous, and was off for a year and a half after that.

The biggest fight of the century will not be Wilder vs AJ. It will be Spence vs Crawford. Wilder may not even beat Ortiz.

Berchelt is my favorite fighter of 2017. He is a great cross of skill and action. He was in two of the best action fights of 2017, Vargas and Miura.

I go with AJ v Wlad for favorite fight of the year with round five round of the year. I completely disagree with those whom degrade that fight based on Wlad’s age and his fiasco with Fury. Wlad was ready on the night and put forth a tremendous effort.

Years from now the fight that will be synonymous with 2017 will be AJ v Wlad.

Favourite fighter has to be Golovkin. I feel his boxing skills are criminally underrated by some. He is most definetly not a Lemieux caliber fighter. Of course he also has the heart of a fighter. If you think fighter, you think Golovkin. Unfortunately can’t say I’m too optimistic about his career moving forward. I feel he has aged. I’m glad he is getting well deserved pay days but I hope in the future he doesn’t receive too much damage and is able to retire comfortably and with health.

As for the favourite fight. James Degale v Badou Jack. Boys with a bit of weight on them trading a nice volume of hard shots, body shots, a nice stylistic match up, momentum changes, knockdowns. Both showed skills, including Degale who I thought just lost. Did not dissapointing except for the judging and was a unification bout..ie the best fighting the best.

Well for me it has to be AJ and rather than be doubly dull and predictable with my second obvious choice. I'm going to go for Breazeale v Ugonoh which I also just knew would be a cracker.

fight of the year was clearly Wlad-Josh, HW title fight, old long-time champ vs young undefeated lion, knockdowns on both sides, late stoppage, two great athletes, prepared best possible, both sides landing heavy bombs, before the stoppage could go either way, so it has it all to become a fight of the year

Loma has to be my fighter of the year for 2017. He just seems to get better and better with every fight. I could probably spend an entire Loma fight just by watching his footwork. I know everyone says it but it really is fantastic.

AJ-Wlad is probably my fight of the year. If im honest I was firmly rooting for Wlad and was gutted when AJ landed that uppercut towards the end as I knew it was over the second it landed. It really did have me on the edge of my seat at various moments of the fight.

I'd have to say Errol Spence going into Kell Brook's home turf and coming from behind after a rocky start to take the title belt home with home with him!!

Spence is among my favorite fighters too. I havent got a single favorite, but am big on: Spence, Crawford, Mikey Garcia, Inoue and Oscar Valdez.

Oh yes!
I was an overnight Brazeale fan after that one. So much heart!
If only he can keep that momentum going. I think he gives every HW from #6-#15 a really good test and would beat most if he showed up as fit as he could be. I have my fingers crossed he fights Miller next year for an all USA HW blaster just like in days of yore :verysad:
