Nigel Benn Punching A Watermelon

Post by Taansend »

Anyone remember when Benn was a prospect in the 80's and his trainer (Brian Lynch?) or maybe Ambrose Mendy had Benn punching a watermelon for the tabloids?

Lovely photos.

Or did I imagine it? I can't find any record of it anywhere..... :maybe:

What a bully!! It’s not as if the watermelon could punch back! Disgraceful story.... like sparring with a fighter who was armless.

We all did it. It was an 80s craze. But at least a retarded can go. It’s and fight back. A watermelon can’t.

To be an utter snowflake, my son was born with a rare brain condition called Sturge-Weber and amongst other symptoms and issues, it causes a stroke affect on his left side with a weakened leg and hugely reduced use of his left arm with no fine motor skills at all. He takes medicine every day to control seizures and is a lovely little lad who fights to overcome it and is even a player for the local under 12 football team. He did not ask to be born with this handicap and I guess people could look at him struggling and call him a "spastic". I find where this thread went hugely insulting, thoughtless and typical of attitudes that existed for a long time and sadly still do to a degree, as you demonstrated and shows why he has additional challenges from people looking down their noses at him and thinking he is an object of fun and a target to bully in situations.

Toby,

I'm sincerely sorry for what you & your family have been burdened (if that's the right word) with. Life can be cruel. And you deserve credit for being the man you are.

But you really shouldn't take too much notice of throwaway remarks on a social forum.

It's just lads being dicks.

Plus, Stuart lives in Scotland. He's f*cked

Mate, that's awful. I'm sure however nobody said it with any malice towards people with medical issues.

i remember on youtube a few years ago some internet warrior being 'hard' by smashing watermelons. think it was some fat hick us guy whod get his kid to film. billed himself as a coach for power punching

melon smashing really isnt that impressive, although some would think it really means they have the power to crush a human head like that

It may not have sounded it, but I am not stressing or overly getting touchy, just wanted to say that so people could take a moment to think about what they say as words can be hugely offensive and cutting. I applaud you for being to make light of your own situation but that does not mean everyone can.

Totally agree, no one here would mean malice, I just saw an opening to maybe educate that there is a reason we should be careful what we say, not because of snowflakes or over sensitive arseholes, but because words can be damaging. .
