Povetkin vs. Whyte Anyone?

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Carl Froch mentioned this fight.

"Whyte is probably the only one who is going to wind him up in the build-up, but he needs to prove he is good enough first. Then I was going to say Alexander Povetkin now he's the WBA mandatory, but what about putting him against Dillian Whyte and the winner gets to fight Josh? Whyte is probably the only one who is going to wind [Joshua] up in the build-up, but he needs to prove he is good enough first,"

Apart from the 'winner fights Joshua' because to be honest, i'd rather not see AJ-Whyte again just yet..

Under no circumstance do we need AJ v Whyte again.

Whyte-Povetkin would have a similar ending to Chisora-Haye. Povetkin by brutal KO.

Povetkin is too harsh and skillful for Whyte. I don't think the fight happens. Whyte promoters won't take the risk, especially considering the fact, that Povetkin is always kinda out of title elimination.

Actually, the WBA announced him the next mandatory. So Hearn could use this fight in the UK to build Povetkin vs. Joshua in the future.

What will happen is, a deal for Povetkin vs. Joshua won't be reached, it will go to purse bids and then Rybanski will bid something daft like £20 million and the fight will be staged in Russia.

povetkin is still good, dont get it twisted. even though hes not ktfoing everyone now hes still puts together excellent combos and is well schooled. he didnt win olympic golds and world championships for nothing. id have to still go pov although hes almost 40 and could fall off fast.

i lold at someone who picked parker over pov by 8-4 and said pov is overrated looking at his hammer fight. ya, like 12-0 hammer is any worse than arguably losing 7 rounds to obese andy

imo pov just may still be at the stage where only the elite like aj and wilder and maybe ortiz beat him. but time is running out.

I still rate Povetkin highly. There is maybe only 2 active HW's that beat him today. Olympians don't just fall off.. look at Wlad?

I like both these Povetkin fights, I would be enjoyed by AJ vs Whyte II, too.

Having suffered through Whyte v Helenius live, I’d be happy if I never saw Whyte box again.

Waste of a thread really as no chance it happens.

Whyte wanted PPV money to rematch Chisora, a fight which made sense to make in early 2017.

He would want even more to fight a better fighter in Povetkin.

Whyte will fight poor opposition until a Joshua rematch or Wilder.

Povetkin would win in a shutout 12-0.
White will be the new Chisora losing every meaningful fight he ever gets

Povetkin easily. Povetkin is past his prime, but Whyte is too wide-open to survive his crisp attacks.

Whyte has never really done anything to impress me. He seems all hype to me. Povetkin would iron him out for sure.

Having said that, I’d be very surprised if Whyte wanted that fight for the money that would probably be on the table anyway.

The point of the thread wasn't that the fight is going to happen. It's good to hear other opinions.

Fight has never really been discussed since i've been on these forums

Bollocks

I've been watching a fair bit of Povetkin over the last week and I just don't see it. What exactly is good about him?
Whyte by wide decision for me.

did u watch any whyte? what exactly would win a wide decision for whyte. how good do u think del is, because he had whyte all over the place. that was sandwiched between del being outclasded by pulev and losing to that young turk with far fewer good moments than vs whyte.

pov throws good combos and is pretty well schooled, esp inside. he didnt win olympic, world, and euro gold for no reason, hes not up there with aj or wilder but thats not whyte at all. he wouldnt ktfo whyte but then again i was surprised at how non ko artist del had him rocking and reeling and helenius when actually throwing hurt him too

imo while pov is fading and lost steam off peds hes still plenty good enough not to lose wide to whyte

If Whyte ever fights Pov it’s in Russia.

I see Pov outboxing him and stopping him late as he gasses. Pov can go through the gears well.

Be interesting to see if Pov-AJ ever got to purse bids.

It likely would go to purse bids. Ryabanski will never agree to any terms no matter how good they are. Then wait until the purse bid. bid something like £30 million and BOOM! Fight takes place in Moscow.
