Fury v Haye late 2013 - how would it have gone?
Fury v Haye late 2013 - how would it have gone?
(Six months ago this poll was close to going in Boxing History...)
If the fight had taken place as scheduled in September 2013, who'd have won?
For context: this would've been Fury's next fight after his scrappy up-and-down win over Cunningham; Haye was about 15 months removed from the Chisora KO. Haye was the favourite on here at the time, I seem to recall. In the time since, Fury has achieved more at world level than most of us thought he would, whilst Haye has shown noticeably declining footspeed since his 2016 comeback (though note he's now 37 and was 33 when this fight was meant to take place).

Haye struggled with Valuevs' size and couldn't touch Wlad.
Fury would have been to big for Haye I reckon.
The build up was fun...

At the time I thought Haye would blow through him but subsequent evidence suggests that may not be the case. My initial thought now is Fury would win as proven to be a class above with a win that far exceeds any that David has pulled off. Fury won ugly against Wlad and could use his style and size to frustrate Haye but then I think that obviously Haye is a lot more explosive than Wlad and unlike him, would not hesitate to throw the right hand..
But I think I am going to lean slightly towards Fury being able to pull it off, even back then when he may have been a little less confident and a little less developed.

Fury was very hittable at the time. In fact he still might be given Wlad was too gunshy to throw anything back. If Cunningham and Pajkic were getting through and landing then Haye was always going to pose big problems.

I went for Fury on points. I know he wasn’t convincing against Cunningham but he knew Haye was dangerous and would have to be at his best or it would have been curtains.

At that time haye would of knocked furys head off

I still have my tickets for the fight.
I would have to say David Haye tbh. I would have thought he would have stopped Fury. Not so sure these days though.

I think Fury would stop Haye these days, but in all honesty you cant guarantee Haye getting through the ropes without an injury.

Thats how I see it, I would've bet my house on Haye winning but not so sure now. If Fury kept on his toes, tied him up in the clinches, leaned on him and generally frustrated Haye I could see Fury outpointing him.tobyh5 wrote: ↑01 Jan 2018, 13:33 At the time I thought Haye would blow through him but subsequent evidence suggests that may not be the case. When they were supposed to fight I picked Fury. I wouldn't change it now.
I'm actually more confident of a Fury win at that point

I fancied Haye strongly in that he could have got to Fury like Cunningham did and not let him off the hook.
However in hindsight that fight did Fury a lot of favours, he learned by his mistakes and would have been a different proposition for Haye to face.
Also in hindsight Haye has barely got through a training camp and I feel he would have fallen apart late on v Fury.

It took Team Fury a while longer to use Tyson’s height and reach to full effect.
The lean back and the way he steps out of range he wasn’t showing consistently at this point.
Hard to judge the Haye that would of turned up but I thought he looked sharp against Chisora.
I’d favour Haye to stop him in the early part of the fight.

Would need to see Fury against a world class heavy who can pull the trigger first.

At the time i thought Haye. In retrospect i think i would have got that prediction wrong. I think if Fury got in the same shape as he did the WK fight then he would have won via UD.

Good question and looking back, I’m not entirely sure to be honest.

Fury only landed 14 more punches in his supposed masterclass than Haye did in his supposed humiliation. Wlad had a better night against Haye end of but you can't really use that fight as a yardstick. Fury took advantage of Wlad not turning up and knew that, hence bottling the rematch.mickey1975 wrote: ↑04 Jan 2018, 07:30Or the version of Tyson who beat the very same Wlad who Haye sh!t himself against....

I was at both. Tyson would have beaten Haye easily and Haye knew it. He predicted both pull outs. He was terrified!dirk2686 wrote: ↑04 Jan 2018, 09:27Fury only landed 14 more punches in his supposed masterclass than Haye did in his supposed humiliation. How many did Wlad land on Haye compared to Tyson?dirk2686 wrote: ↑04 Jan 2018, 09:27Fury only landed 14 more punches in his supposed masterclass than Haye did in his supposed humiliation.
