His last fight at 46 was in about 1990... from what I've heard he was pounded about for the whole fight and his brother later said that the day after the fight Jerry was 'gone'..... had a vacant look and started becoming confused. Very sad. People talked about him having brain damage in 82 when he made his original comeback but he laughed off these claims and seemed to be ok on the outside... seems it was the last fight that pushed him over the edge.
I see worrying parallels between Quarry and Thomas Hearns with the difference being that Hearns is already showing outward signs of problems yet is still being allowed to box.
Other worrying cases are Tyson (his speech has changed quite a bit I think) Holifield and Bowe.
Jerry took a beating, is an understatement, Jerry could not walk a straight line and that was before the fight! He threw a vicious left hook, to start out with, they would have found Cranmers head in the fourth row, ( missed) and was potshotted against the ropes for they next 6 rounds by his 16 year younger rival, who would never have ever been allowed to spar with Jerry Quarry, for his own good.
They did not pay Jerry his $1 grand! And Jimmy Quarry had to threaten a law suit, they were gonna try to get away without paying him, no Boxing Commission in Colrado!! Is how they got him there in the first place!!

Quarry-Zanon . Chris Shenkel called the fight, and did a good job.

Wasn't that the undercard to the Norton-Young #1 contenders match?

I'm sure that Cosell called the main event.

I was never much of a Shenkel fan. But Cosell's presence signaled "Big Fight."

this was Quarry's fourth to last fight, Wished he'd stayed retired after at least Norton, but when THE likes of Bobick, Evangelista, Richard Dunn, are making those kinds of paydays "why not"
