Based purely on ability and skill level, Toney is a match for anyone, and I think the last year of Golovkin's career will mean lots lean towards Toney. If James was to turn up having been motivated in camp (which for a fight like this you would have to assume that he would be) then he'd have a great chance. Stylistically Golovkin is probably quite good for him, he wouldn't make Toney have to use his legs in the way that Jones Jr and Nunn did. Those who stood in front of Toney (Barkley, Jirov etc) tended to get beaten up. Golovkin is a much, much better boxer than those two though with a better jab and brilliant footwork. Also worth remembering that as good as Toney was, he went close with lesser fighters than Golovkin in his run at 160 with split decision wins over Sosa, Johnson and Tiberi so any suggestions of Toney schooling GGG are unrealistic IMO. The fight 100% goes the distance and I think both would have their success, I'd probably edge towards Golovkin by close decision in a classic.
