Re: Anthony Joshua (WBA, IBF, IBO) vs. Joseph Parker (WBO) - TBA
According to Talksport the fight is in danger of collapsing. Povetkin has been made mandatory WBA and that could go ahead instead.
Re: Anthony Joshua (WBA, IBF, IBO) vs. Joseph Parker (WBO) - TBA
I thought there was wiggle room because it is a unification bout and both combatants have forfilled their mandatory obligations within the last 5 months?
I'm sure that the promotion of Povitkin to #1 mandatory can wait until after March?

It sounds like Parker is wanting more cake.

Talksport didnt say. But sounds like Parker is wanting more money. I think Povetkin is just an alternative fight if parker collapses.

Re: Anthony Joshua (WBA, IBF, IBO) vs. Joseph Parker (WBO) - TBA
The total purse for Joshua v Klitschko was 30 million quid which they split down the middle.
Joshua Takam was 20 mill, which was split 75%-25%
This purse has to be at least 25 million so even if Parker gets 30% (he's getting slightly more) he'll be on at least 7.5 million.
He got 1.1 million for fighting Hughie Fury. So he's at least getting 7 times more than his previous highest purse PLUS 55% if he wins & they have a rematch. Which will be worth at least 20 million.
And he's squabbling over another percent or two
If I've got any figures wrong I'll happily stand corrected.

Re: Anthony Joshua (WBA, IBF, IBO) vs. Joseph Parker (WBO) - TBA
Nope, from what I know your right. Factor in Parker losing his belt and not being able to recapture one from either Wilder or Joshua. This payday is important because it might be his last big one. So efforts to maximise his returns are the career hail mary.Taansend wrote: ↑03 Jan 2018, 16:03 The total purse for Joshua v Klitschko was 30 million quid which they split down the middle.

I think, win or lose, Parker will be around for quite a few years.KiwiRider wrote: ↑03 Jan 2018, 16:14Nope, from what I know your right. Oh for sure, Parker will be around for as long as he wants to be. It's just that when (if) his belt goes, getting one back now is a much harder road than he had, and is capable of.Taansend wrote: ↑03 Jan 2018, 16:32I think, win or lose, Parker will be around for quite a few years.KiwiRider wrote: ↑03 Jan 2018, 16:14Nope, from what I know your right. Nice little nothing fights in NZ or Oz, nettig him a million a pop for as long as he wants. It's just this fight is his one big chance for a score very few boxers get in a whole career. Good on him and his unconventional ( but savvy) management/promotional people
Re: Anthony Joshua (WBA, IBF, IBO) vs. Joseph Parker (WBO) - TBA
The only interesting thing in this particular debate is that Joshua dropping Takam and winning every round is used as evidence for him not being that good.
Re: Anthony Joshua (WBA, IBF, IBO) vs. Joseph Parker (WBO) - TBA
I look at this as a game of probabilities. Career jackpot for Parker is win against Joshua and then take the rematch. But the chances of that are slim to say the least.KiwiRider wrote: ↑03 Jan 2018, 16:14Nope, from what I know your right. So, in round figures, he can earn approx 1m per fight in NZ defending his belt or in Hughie Fury style fights. Or 7m losing against Joshua. My question would be is it more or less likely that before he gets to seven Hughie wins he actually loses along the way.
So if that seems more likely to happen than Parker racking up a further seven consecutive defences, he may as well take the Joshua fight now. Nothing he's shown so far suggests to me that Parker is a long term champion.

This Ring title? I know about the magazine but whats the title worth? Is it just a honorary thing, if so how does one boxer earn it?wesshaw1985 wrote: ↑08 Jan 2018, 10:30yep, its dragging on abit now. Needs to get signed and announced.
Ring Magazine could potentially be on the line also.
Can you fight for the title or not?

It's not an honorary title. It's a normal world title. Has been around for nearly 100 years. It does have special requirements when defending it. Stevenson was stripped of his title because he wasn't defending it against decent opponents. If it's a vacant title, its usually between the top 5 ranked, when and if they fight each other. e.g. When Crawford fought Postol. It was basically #1 vs. #2.. so the Ring put their on the line.mimmy123 wrote: ↑08 Jan 2018, 12:03This Ring title? I know about the magazine but whats the title worth? Is there anything specific about Feb 1 for Fury being stripped?

So apart from the 2 names above, who else has had a fight for The ring title only? no other titles at stake?Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑08 Jan 2018, 12:13It's not an honorary title. Not sure about no other titles at stake. It's usually champions that are ranked highly. The Ring put their vacant title at stake for Ward vs. Kovalev II.mimmy123 wrote: ↑08 Jan 2018, 12:43So apart from the 2 names above, who else has had a fight for The ring title only? no other titles at stake?Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑08 Jan 2018, 12:13It's not an honorary title.
