I'm white but my list favourite boxers consists mostly of the black fighters. I think the colour of skin shouldn't matter whether it's sports, business or relationship with a woman.

I agree 100%. I don't care what color or nationality a fighter isBoxing Writer wrote: ↑07 Jan 2018, 15:12 I'm white but my list favourite boxers consists mostly of the black fighters. I think the colour of skin shouldn't matter whether it's sports, business or relationship with a woman.
Re: is it wrong to root for fighters of your race?
I wouldn't say it's "wrong" to root for a fighter of your own race, but I'd ask people to look for personal similarities outside of race and country for that matter.
There is something more interesting about a Mexican fighting a Puerto Rican than 2 Mexicans fighting each other with all else being equal.
Wilder vs Povetkin and Baby Miller vs Pulev would be more interesting than Wilder vs Miller and Pulev vs Povetkin for example.

You just root for the guy you like and you often like people that have something in common with you, weather it's the looks, the schooling, the same friend, same area, it doesn't really matter. I support AJ because he's good and he looks good, just like me, I support Povetkin because he's innocent and I care about justice, I support Tyrone Spong, because he used to live close near me, I support Junlong Zhang because he's much better as many people think he is, just like me. I don't support Wilder, because he's a cheater and protected like hell, unlike me, I don't support David Haye, because he's a silly coward, a snake, a lier and someone that doesn't stick o his promises, unlike me.

So AJ looks good just like you. LOL.asdfjkl wrote: ↑07 Jan 2018, 16:15 You just root for the guy you like and you often like people that have something in common with you, weather it's the looks, the schooling, the same friend, same area, it doesn't really matter. Interesting tangent here. I like Terrance Crawford because he's great and is buddies with Warren Buffett, who is one of the very few Billionaires that is low key and not an a hole.
I like Deontay Wilder because he makes me laugh.
I liked Don LaLonde because he's a Dylan fan like me.
I liked Leon Spinks because he was born on my birthday and he does like to party.
I liked Duane Bobick because if I was a boxer, I'd be a lot like him. Some power, but pretty bad with no defense. LOL.

Re: is it wrong to root for fighters of your race?
I remember the first pro boxing event I ever attended, in Detroit, that all the black people sitting around me were rooting against a white boxer from the Michigan suburbs and instead for his opponent, a black boxer from another country.
I remember in Toronto during an Olympics, a Canadian black woman I worked with was rooting for black athletes from other countries over white Canadian athletes.
Whites (including some on this website) seem to be the only people who ever root for people of other races over their own race.
I was the same as a boy, my favorites included Willie Mays, Joe Frazier, Henry Aaron and others. My favorite hockey team was the Montreal Canadiens even though I'm not French.

If people wanna be racist, and cheer for people or see the world through a racial lens, that's their problem. Doesn't benefit them in any way, nor does it effect you who people cheer for in a Boxing match. I wouldn't let it bother me so much.

FYI, You totally ruined this thread by offering a simple, concise response, vs a fornicating novel by most here.

In a more ideal world people would root for country over color, but I appreciate when people are honest about it.Freedom2013 wrote: ↑07 Jan 2018, 17:11 I remember the first pro boxing event I ever attended, in Detroit, that all the black people sitting around me were rooting against a white boxer from the Michigan suburbs and instead for his opponent, a black boxer from another country.

Re: is it wrong to root for fighters of your race?
Its definitely not wrong. But if race is only reason you root for a fighter, that is wrong
Too bad that is case of too many "fans" ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Re: is it wrong to root for fighters of your race?
In the original post by the OP, it was mentioned why people root for their own countries in the Olympics. I think that is normal. I think of of it as rooting for your team. And we usually don't much about the fighter's personalities at that point.
Otherwise, I went with the guy I liked better. If the guy from country is a douche bag, I'm not going to root for him, even if he from my country.
I have always found that most Americans are like this.
For example if there is a fight in the United States between an American and a fighter from South America or Mexico. You don't see people waving the American flag or chanting" USA".

Idon't get it, why is this even a question, black white purple, who cares, either your likeable as a person or your not.
Re: is it wrong to root for fighters of your race?
Mostly only white Eastern Euro fans + Black & White USA fans are racist biased fools.
That's why i do not like Eastern Europe fans and many of our fighters. I live here and i know racism in East Europe is real.
I love UK fans. They are no biased like my own country

It doesn't bother me who cheers for who, it makes no difference whatsoever.gilgamesh wrote: ↑07 Jan 2018, 17:16"Be the change you wish to see in the world"

What I do find a bit annoying is the double standard: that it's okay for other races to root for their own race, but if a white person roots for his own race than he's not being "politically correct" and he'll be called a "racist" and a "white supremacist".
Re: is it wrong to root for fighters of your race?
I certainly have nothing against Eastern European fighters. Guys like the Klitschkos and Lomachenko to name just 3 have been phenomenal for the sport. But some Eastern European fans are very biased, I agree.IronFrost wrote: ↑07 Jan 2018, 18:49 Mostly only white Eastern Euro fans + Black & White USA fans are racist biased fools.

Actually it makes it more fun this way. If they weren't so biased I really wouldn't care that much who won between say Wilder and Povetkin. Their bias, and there is plenty of bias on all sides, while it can get ugly, does make it more fun.

Eastern Euro fans blamed Wilder for Povetkin's failed tests. That's just pathetic and hilarious.
Only because Povektin was white and from their country region.
I would never defend anyone who failed tests - even if i am FAN of him.
That's just fornicating eastern euro mentality - blaming everything on USA and bad "western" countries.
Europe where i live is racist in 99%
Can you imagine Wilder failing any of those testes?
It would be different name of the game LOL
Re: is it wrong to root for fighters of your race?
where in europe do u live
Re: is it wrong to root for fighters of your race?
Czech Republic. We are slavic country like Russia or Ukraine.
Racism is real in those countries![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
They call "darker" people "monkeys" on daily basic.
It's on every forum almost![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
They are mad when white boy loses.
They are biased when they see video where black people do something wrong - there are bilions of racial slurs and biased crap-
But when white person does something they wont even mention his color or they wont call him "pink pig" or something similiar to "monkey"

We get this race OP every couple months and it appears that this one has done better than most and some intelligent responses.
The boxers that appeal to me are the ones that are as exciting and charismatic in post fight interviews as they are when punches are thrown. But to me, I’m always for the underdog 90% of the time. It has nothing to do with skin ever. I’m all Italian but I’d never root for a boxer on that basis. I like to see special talent or special heart. Those are what I look for most and if they are amusing and entertaining. Skin color never ever has been a factor
